Hank turns 100.
Old Hank turns 100 years old tomorrow, 9/17. He's still 29 to the world and to music. Happy Birthday Hank. Bet there's a helluva band up there. J.O'.

Imagine Hank, Elvis, Ralph Stanley and Stevie Ray Vaughn, to name a few.

They are supposed to have a tribute to him on Circle network from the opry.
I’ll try and find it.

Jeannie Seely played some today on Willie's Roadhouse. Somebody should have a solid 2 hours of his stuff, including recitations from Luke the Drifter. I'm spinning some vinyl myself today and moanin' some Cheatin' Heart with my my old Gibson CW, J-45, and Harmony Sovereign. Happy 100th Ol' Hank.

Re: Hank turns 100.
Been spinning my own this afternoon since we got home from church. I’ve had this CD boxed set for 20+ years. At the time I got it, it supposedly contained every known recording of Hank including Luke the Drifter and some previously unreleased recordings of radio shows and commercials Hank performed. Whenever I need a good dose of Hank I put it on.

Ken: I'd like to hear that. I have lots of his records and memorabilia, bio's, etc. A friend gave me this CD. Some of it may be included on yours. They're studio demo's, outtakes, radio shorts, etc. Just Hank and his guitar. It's really great, so personal and soulful without the band. (Mercury o88 170 164-2)
My earliest memory of Hank was my Dad giving me a nickel and telling me to play "Cheatin' Heart" on a barroom jukebox when I was around six years old. He loved the song and would play it many times over. It's funny but I'm 76 and Hank was 29 when he died, yet, he still seems much older than I'll ever be.
I can tell you dig him as much as I do.
John.

Re: Hank turns 100.
Indeed. If I could only have recordings of two artists, it would be Hank Williams Sr., and Jimmie Rodgers. I have a 6 CD box set of Jimmie, and some of his other recordings (including covers of his songs by others), that I listen to with as much reverence as I have for Hank. Fortunately there are a lot more great artists, so I don’t have to make that choice.

Ever heard JR's recordings with the big New York orchestras? They're pretty amazing, I like it all early till the end. Another tragic story.

By the way Merle Haggard's "Same Train Different Time" album is a great tribute to Jimmy.

I have it. I was fortunate enough to see Merle live at about the time that and his tribute to Bob Wills were released. He performed a lot of songs from both, played the fiddle too!Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Mon Sep 18, 2023 4:15 am By the way Merle Haggard's "Same Train Different Time" album is a great tribute to Jimmy.
Here’s a link to one of my favorite Jimmie Rodgers tribute albums. Bunch of contemporary artists that were influenced by Jimmie, and playing his songs. Also you can listen to much of the Hank Williams boxed set on YouTube. Too bad it’s not all of it.
