First Cup Diner!
Re: First Cup Diner!
Good day to all. It's currently 60 degrees, with 80/59 predicted. Looks like it'll warm up as the week progresses and then drop to a high of 58 on Saturday. Wacky Michigan weather at its finest! Not much else is new; just waiting to see how the MLB postseason shapes up. Hope everyone is well, and see you again soon!

Good morning everyone. Happy Sunday.
I would often visit my favorite diner on Saturday or Sunday morning but due to the higher prices I don’t eat at restaurants as often. My usual order was $8.50 and a huge portions. Up to $12 now plus the tip. Last time I went there were far fewer patrons. Our economy is circling the drain.
No definite plans for today since I finished my chores. Might take a drive to the mountains.
Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Good Mornin', Folks.
Oscar, you are up mighty early again. Are you still dealing with the insomnia issues?
Looks like there is another clear day on tap this morning, 64 degrees before the sun comes up. We got all the way to 92 yesterday but with low humidity, very pleasant!
Had a good visit with our son and grandson yesterday. They rode in the woods and fished a couple of times in one of the ponds. Watching them reminded me of about 40 years ago when I was teaching Philip to use a rod and reel, patience, patience....! And that made me remember being with my dad 70 plus years ago, learning to fish. Pop would cast an old top water plug up next to some grass and let it sit for the longest time. A tiny twitch and sometimes the water would explode as bass would hit the lure! I always wanted to cast and retrieve immediately, just like grandson Dawson did yesterday.
Live and learn.
Watched parts of several college football games yesterday, FSU had a bye week. Clemson won as did Georgia. Georgia seemed to have a hard time defeating Auburn.
Church in a few hours, nothing on the schedule other than a day of rest.
The coffee is ready for consumption, Miss Joy has scattered her Black Oil sunflower seeds for the squirrels and Mourning Doves, looks like the 1st day of October is under way at Starvation Plantation!

Good morning. Phil, I wish you guys would share some of that pleasant weather with us. Yesterday was another in a string of cool damp days. Everything is turning to mold and toadstools. The fall leaves are at a peak and the dreary foggy weather dulls them down to an unimpressive picture. That talk about fishing reminds me of when my oldest was about 4 or 5 and we went fishing with my dad. My son Shawn caught a tiny little crappie around three inches long. My dad, his grandpa took the fish off Shawns hook, took a spinner out of his tackle box, fed the little fish onto the stringer and snapped it onto his line and cast it out. Shawn watched him with full interest until Dad made the cast and then informed Dad "Grandpa, I wanted that fish". Dad's mouth dropped. He hadn't realized it was Shawn's first fish and meant something special to him. My Dad was and still is one of Shawn's favorite people in his life even though Dad passed away 30 years ago. I still get a little emotional all these years later remembering two of the people I loved most in this world sitting in that boat dealing with an awkward situation that totally snuck up on them. Church is in a few hours and nothing else planned for this day of rest.____Dave
Re: First Cup Diner!
Had a great time with my California family yesterday but today isn’t going to be a good one. Woke up at 3AM with a horrible sore throat, can barely swallow or talk. So road trip to celebrate granddaughter birthday won’t be happening

Oh well, plenty that needs done here at home.
Record high temp yesterday 93. More of the same today & tomorrow.

A Viet vet friend is being certified as a prison chaplain today. Joining him and his wife for a meal later. He has a sizeable collection of hunting style fixed blades, but his gun collection is amazing, both pistols and long guns. Has several safes for storage.
Hope Cudgee is doing okay.
Once again enjoying the fine shifting of my car.

COFFEE IS READY-COME ON IN
START OF A GREAT NEW WEEK. September flew by. I hope October stays around for awhile. Great weather. Took my dog walking in state park, a group of about 10 large deer crossed our path. She was ready to go home after that.
A good time was had by all. Have a great week everyone.

Thanks Cudgee. I’d still be sleeping except for the insomnia. Hope you’re doing well.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Welcome to Monday. 57 going to 87; sunny. The days have been beautiful.
Thanks for stopping in Cudgee. Glad all is well.
Dinner with my friend and his wife was enjoyable. He was a Green Beret for a few years (but always a Green Beret) then he became a Cobra pilot. I had ravioli but I prefer Chef Boyardee's. For a while he acted as chaplain at the local VFW but quit. He says most were just into drinking beer-which he enjoys- and figuring out how to put in claims for personal injuries.
My sister got rid of an old couch and replaced it with one I consider questionable. But I have learned to keep my decorating opinions to myself. I try to imitate the good example of Dan in Michigan by remaining affable and going along with my sister's preferences.
peace & health

Morning Everyone.
First cup is about empty and will be needing another one to get this rear end and other parts motivated. Tossed and turned last night so not much good sleep. As Oscar mentioned it seems September went by fast. This October is full up . A lot going on and then add some bow hunting to the agenda and it’ll be a full month . Will be heading to Texas with Trapper Dan to bring down a 5 th wheel camper on the 14 th . His daughter has a new position with the VA down in San Antonio and can’t find a decent house so decided to live in her camper for awhile. Might hang out for a day or 2 before turning and burning our way back home .
Cudgee , good to see you posting again.
You all have a good one out there .

Good morning. 62 to start the day and supposed to be in a warning trend this week. I woke up achy so I'm not sure what the day has in store for work. We have sanding and finish coat on sheetrock and that's a younger person's job to start with, so I wouldn't miss taking the day off. Hope you all have a great first week in October.____Dave

Good Mornin', Folks.
60 degrees this morning, no rain in LA (lower Alabama aka FL. Panhandle) on the radar right now. Low humidity continues during the day.
Follow-up appointment with GI doctor this afternoon, hopefully he'll allow me to get back on the arthritis medication that our family doctor took me off of when I had the belly ache back in July.
Got the coffee going, Miss Joy is fussing because she had to give the barn cats some dog food!
Hummingbirds are still entertaining us.
Y'all have a great Monday!

I order from "Drifters Fish" on occasion and have it shipped to my house, far superior to brands found in the supermarket. It is pricey, so I don't eat it exclusively when it comes to my salmon consumption, but it is worth it.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 12:28 pm Best never to eat farmed salmon, eg.Atlantic salmon, canned salmon. If nothing else, check out their website.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Ike, I checked out Drifters Fish. Great looking products. Unfortunately, the prices would not be prudent for me.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Yeah, I never should have given them a try and I wouldn't know what I was missing. As it is, I am hooked and give myself the occasional treat.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 7:58 pm Ike, I checked out Drifters Fish. Great looking products. Since you once mentioned that your sister has a great recipe for Salmon......did you check out the recipes on the Drifters website? There are some interesting ones.

Good day to all. Boji, hope you're feeling better by now! It's currently 65 degrees, and looks like we're headed for 85/63. For those who don't know, my house is in dire need of a new roof. I may well have schemed a way to make that happen. Unfortunately, with a steep pitch and cedar shake, that could be an uphill battle. Perhaps djknife13 might know a little more about the specifics? I think some deliveries will be arriving later today. What an exciting life I lead. Hope everyone is well, and see you again soon!

Mornin' Y'all
Up 2-3 hours ago, can't sleep for some reason, even after being up all day ...
Gotta chauffeur the wife to Birmingham to retrieve her car. Place that specializes in sunroofs and convertibles
estimated $1750 to fix her sunroof. Would have to replace the entire mechanism. No thanks.
So ... lights are on and the pot is singing. Enjoy your day and stay safe

Good morning. Finally got a decent nights sleep for a change. First night in four days.
Got most of my chores done yesterday. Today the weather should be good to work outdoors. I need to make repairs on the outside shed. Door frames are rotted out and I need to rebuild them. Always something.
Have a good day. Need to get some coffee started after I take care of my critters.
My cat Ralph sends Wampus regards.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good Mornin', Early Risers.
More dr. appointments in Panama City today, so we're stirring earlier than usual. Normally I'd be at the men's prayer meeting already on Tuesday morning by this time. Yesterday's follow-up with GI doc went well, he told me he saw no reason not to add the Meloxicam to my daily list of meds and supplements! The polyps removed and the observations they made set me up for another GI procedure in 3 years. Got home and took a Meloxicam tablet and within an hour I could tell it was beginning to have the desired effect on my bum knee and this morning there is a world of difference! Thank you, Lord!
Before yesterday's trip I had time to disk the food plot again. Trying to keep from having to bottom plow the soil, enough passes with the disk harrow and it will loosen up the soil enough to plant some sort of cereal grain, oats, wheat or rye. It's time to plant as the weather is definitely lost its summer strangle hold on the soil. Oats and such may germinate but the heat will sometimes kill the sprouts if the soil and sun are too hot.
Coffee is almost ready, tomorrow we will sleep in a bit maybe.
