One Of The Things I Love About AAPK

Post by herbva »

I'd been hunting for a new pile side scale for this WW2 issue U.S. Navy Medical Department engineer knife for a while, but no dice. All of the scales in my parts stash were either not long enough or not wide enough or too poor of a match or were in bad condition. So, I put a post on the Knife Mechanic's Swap Forum ("Looking For A Suitable Jigged Bone Slab or Donor Knife") and Jim (Olde Cutler) immediately got back to me with a perfect match, and I just received it in the mail a couple of days ago. He won't accept anything from me, not even reimbursement for the postage! This knife was in really good shape for being around 80 years old, just missing the pile side scale (cover) and the bail. If this knife could talk I'm sure there would be a good story about what happened to that back side scale. But, so far, the knife hasn't spoken to me. (Sorry for the long-winded story.) :D

A match that good doesn't happen often. Herb gave me some pressed stag handles I'm trying to get analyzed , so I guess it pays forward. ::tu:: ::tu::

Hey, one good scale wasn't useful to me. Glad you could put it to good use to fix up an old knife. I hate to see good old knives homeless and unwanted. lol

I think it was a great story, Herb, and not long-winded either, you explained the situation and what the results were, short n' sweet.
That's a teriffic donation from Jim, and it looks great!

Between things like this, and the concern for our brother MadMarco, that's what makes this place pretty special!

It “speaks” to me, Herb. Most scout/utility patterns do though.

Great collaboration guys.

There's a lot to love about AAPK. That's what's kept me hanging around for almost 16 years now. Good people round here. ::tu::

Looks fabulous now, you do good work. And great friends to have are the guys with knife parts you need like old Cutler. Win/win.

I saw that original post and thought, how cool to find what looked like a great fit, but it turned out even better than expected.
