American version of the Wostenholm Stag Handle Rope Knife?

Post by Gr8wazu »

I've got a knife that's pretty much a ringer for being a George Wostenholm IXL rope knife with a stag handle, except for the fact that the only thing clear on the tang stamp is "Made in USA" and any similar knife like this that I've found has been made in England. Above "Made in USA" it looks like the name may have ended in the letter Y.

I have spent hours trying to hunt down manufacturers of an American made rope knife like this, to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Could it be: KA-BAR, Olean, N.Y.. I think I see an R above the Y. I don't think its stag. It looks like plastic from the shrinkage shown in your picture. ????Good luck with it. J.O'.

Regular production KUTMASTER knife with imitation stag handles. Not a common knife to find. 1960’s?
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Thanks for the replies. I can't find any images of a similar Kutmaster or Ka-bar knife. If you've got a reference, could you let me know? Here are few more photos.

Here's a Kutmaster I just got off ebay a little bit ago...sorry for the poor pic, it was from the listing.

It shares a lot of similarities. Any chance you could post a close up of the tang markings? Do you know what year this is from?

Go to Google and search for Kutmaster rope knife and then click on the images tab. A lot of pics come up and some with readable tang stamps that might be what you're looking for.
