A few questions about a fixed blade
A few questions about a fixed blade
First let me say the knife has been re handled with stag and had some file work in the back of the blade . The knife came with what appears to be a partial custom sheath . Knife total length 8 3/4 .Blade length 4 5/8. Questions 1 -can this knife be dated by the curved W.S. Tang stamp ? Question 2 - Is the nutted pommel original ? Question 3 - could the knife possibly be a knife body that was contracted from another knife company and been restored ?
Re: A few questions about a fixed blade
Hello. I think there are others here with much more info, but, I believe it is a 1920s era Western Cut-Co skinner. Really neat old knife, has been re-handled. Hope

Re: A few questions about a fixed blade
Thank you for your response .I was thinking that frame and blade may have been an early contract knife made by k-bar or case . Much appreciated. The knife came from Washington state and who ever replaced the handle with stag and done the file work did a great job . Nice save on an old knife .
Re: A few questions about a fixed blade
Happy to help out. It seems to be a Case SFO, which makes sense I think. Wasn’t Mr. Platts related to the Case family?

I know nothing about the OP knife, but the Platts relationship with Case, Western, and other cutleries is fairly well documented here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Knife_Company. (One of few instances of Wikipedia being reasonably correct. Of course, being what it is, it could be edited with inaccuracies at any time.)
