Got this old knife set from my dad

The first Robeson knives were imported by Millard Robeson from England and Germany exclusively. This continued from 1979 until 1896 when Robeson began manufacturing knives in the United States. Since inception, the company has gone through several reorganizations & eventually ended up as a Queen Cutlery brand.

Got this old knife set from my dad

Post by getoffmylawn14 »

So this was my grandfather's and my dad just passed it onto me. I sent a Snapchat to my friend who informed me that it could be valuable and not just a normal set. I can't find any stamps on it so I'm having trouble identifying it if someone who knows about these knives could help me get a rough estimate on what it's worth.

🤔 Interesting, made in Germany by Robeson. Charlie is our resident Robeson expert, hope he sees this.

I really like this set, it should have an annual place at the thanksgiving table.
Seems to be quite a few to google for info and pricing "Vintage Robeson carving set", but this link lead back to a variation on our own AAPK site.

Enjoy it, it's very kool!

John, likely “made in Germany for Robeson”, instead of by Robeson. I don’t think Robeson ever had a factory in Germany, but I know what you meant. The stag/deer scene is typical of etches done by Solingen makers.

Hope Charlie sees this and that he knows who made it for Robeson, and about when. I’m guessing 1950s-60s. ::shrug::

These sets were marketed as “Continental” by Robeson in the 1950’s, possibly 60’s, as well.

They can be found as two knife sets up to five or so knives and other implements, such as a fork or a sharpening steel.

They are all engraved and most have what appear to be gold and silver work in the scenes, mostly hunting or canoeing. Probably not gold and silver, but it looks it.

These show up on Ebay sort of frequently and are usually in excellent condition, as do other sets actually made ny Robeson in Perry, New York. Frozen Heat and Flame Edge and sometimes a really old Gobbler set will be up for auction.

They are sets that were given as Christmas or wedding or anniversary gifts, hardly, if ever used snd now the recipients have died and their children don’t want them and as part of the estate liquidation, they show up on Ebay.

They don’t sell for much, often never reaching three figures.

Just do an Ebay search for “Robeson Cutlery Set”.
