Ultrasonic Cleaners
I am looking for recommendations on a ultrasonic cleaner that is big enough for a fixed blade knife roughly the size of a MK2 or 12”. I originally posted this question in a different area, but didn’t get any answers. I researched this question and saw that there was quite a bit of discussion in 2020-2022, but a lot has changed since then. Also, I would like to hear any pros or cons to using ultrasonic cleaners on knives. In my research that I read it seems like a lot of guys are using them with good results except on celluloid.
Thanks for any & all help,
John

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaners
Well John I don't have a cleaner that is big enough for most fixed blades but
I use mine to loosen up any dirt and pocket lint before cleaning. Sorry I don't
have a recommendation on one that will fit your needs.

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaners
Thank you for the response. Most of what I would be doing would be pocket knives, so can I ask which one you use and are you happy with it? Thank you

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaners
This is the one I got from Amazon. It does okay with most smaller knives but if I were to get another one
I would spend around $125 and get a larger one.

Thank you sir. That’s the price range I am looking at, give or take. It’s going to be a present from my wife.

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaners
I have 3 ultrasonic cleaners but the biggest one is only about 6 inches in width. I would definitely check Amazon for a larger one.

Re: Ultrasonic Cleaners
In using Sonic cleaners for timeclocks (I also service bank vaults), an old trick is to fill a glass beaker with cleaning fluid, and set that beaker inside the Sonic cleaner.
You might try a tall water glass (real glass, not plastic) with your knife standing up in it. Fill the water glass with water and whatever cleaner you choose. Then set the glass inside the sonic cleaner and fill with water.
The sonic waves should pass through the glass and into the knife.
I have never tried this on knives, but it might work.

I have never tried that, but I bet it would work.
I will have to give it a try.
