Help me choose a knife for a girl

Post by Mason Gallagher »

Hello everyone, help me choose a knife for my girlfriend. I want to give her a pink knife from Civivi. Do you think it will suit her in terms of functionality or not?
I also considered the Victorinox option, which is more functional for her.

Depending on the model, the Civivi is likely to come with a pocket clip. You could probably remove it if she doesn’t want to carry it clipped to her pocket but it’s something to consider.

A Swiss Army Knife is a good gift for just about anybody and most women like to have a nail file in close proximity which is one of the tools on many SAKs.

Take a look at some of the Victorinox Alox models. Like the Cadet, for example. You might not find a pink one but they come in other attractive colors.

Why not let her pick one out herself? Sit down together and visit some of the stores here on AAPK. Let her see what's available and more than likely she'll pick something that appeals to her.

She might decide she doesn't want a pink knife. ::nod::

One of the local girls, sweet little Suzie, reloads her 7mm Mauser cartridges with her own recipe and feild dresses her bucks with her Buck Alpha Hunter. I wouldn't risk giving her a pink knife because she's not actually that small and occasionally not all that sweet.

We need to know a little about your girl before guessing what she might appreciate.

This is going to be a more "traditional" looking knife suggestion - the Case mini Copperlock. https://caseknives.com/collections/mini-copperlock

It comes in a variety of colors, it is easy to open and will lock open for safety. It doesn't look aggressive (to most people) and likely would not cause concern if used in a public location. This knife is good for opening packages, cutting loose threads and stuff like that. In my experience this is one of modern Case's better made knives.

What functions does she want or need?

Check out the Galah EDC by Koi Knives. Koi is just breaking into EDC knives and is smashing it with their Aviary Series. Fit and finish is top notch.

There is something intriguing about a woman with a pocket clip showing on the pocket of her jeans. ::groove::

My wife has had a Swiss Army Rambler or a Classic on her keyring for years. I keep trying to give her a "real knife," but she says these are all she needs. My daughter has the same attitude most of the time. Both are happy to carry a full size SAK when camping or doing field work, in my daughter's case archeological digs. A young lady who works for me loves the Kutmaster Girl Scout knife she got from me. Just my two cents worth.

I think it was in 2006 that my wife asked me to get her a Swiss Army Knife for Christmas, which I happily did.

Shopping around for the right one is what got me back into knives after an almost 30 year hiatus.

Take it from us old guys who have been married a long time:
Let her choose the knife.
My wife claimed a small Japanese Klein lockback that I had. It is way too small for me, but she likes it.
My younger daughter has always loved pink girlie things, yet she wanted a Kershaw Storm knife (A fairly large tactical flipper) because that was the knife that Dean Winchester carried in the show "Supernatural".
I would have picked out something small and dainty for her too, and she would have missed out on a lot of fun.
I have found that big Kershaw at her house amidst opened packages and half-finished crafts - the girl loves that knife and uses it!
Jesus is life.
Everything else is just a hobby.

The only thing that could go wrong if you offer to help her choose what she wants, is if she says, "If you really knew me, you'd know what I like." ::cb:: ::facepalm::

Well my wife carries a Spyderco Delica and has for years. When I come home from an auction she has been known to “select” a knife from the days booty. I agree with the thought of letting the lady pick out what she likes. Easy to think she would like a pretty dainty knife and her preference might run a bit “Rambo”.

Might buy 10 or 12 knives you really like and let her choose. Of course you will just have to keep the rest.

There’s a man with a great plan! $ to donuts the one she selects is the one you really wanted for yourself.
