Any ideas?

Post by ArrowheadFredd »

Hello I came across an old knife that was in the ground apparently for some time. It is about 3.5” long and .5” thick Any ideas of the make and age?
Thanks in advance!

Could be any one of hundreds of different makers. If you’re really curious soak it for several days in some Liquid Wrench or similar, and then try to open the master blade to see if there is any legible stamp on it. Otherwise it’s likely to remain a mystery. The ground is hard on metal objects, especially steel!

Even a broken clock is correct twice a day!

My speculation about her:
- bareheaded jack pattern
- wooden handles
- missing bail
- rectangular (bar) shield
- 2 blade, most likely spear main and pen secondary
- 4 rivet
- iron bolsters

anybody else care to contribute?

Looks like rattail bolsters
I don't think it ever had a bail

I found a single shot. 20 gauge years ago leaned up against a tree .the hammer and barrel was rusted up considerably.the wood stock was pitted up .I put the gun in a metal trough and filled it with diesel fuel .After a two week soak the gun cleaned up nicely and only require new spring for the trigger to function properly.

After soaking the bolster in WD40 or Kroil or something similar I would squeeze or press the blade down in the blade well just to get it to move on the pin. If you can do that maybe it will respond to opening outward and giving you a clue as to the maker.
Other than that It might make a reasonable paper weight.
I think it's a keeper. Just because ....... ::nod::

Probably not worth the effort you are going to put into it.
