Anybody know these?
Anybody know these?
I had these older bulbs in a couple task lights in my trapping shed and noticed they were VERY HOT to the touch. I replaced them with leds but wonder what they are designed to be used in. They are heavy, thick glass.
Re: Anybody know these?
Could they be heavy duty bulbs for light extension cord use?
I had a few which had extra thick filaments so if the light
was bounced around a little or fell a few feet the filaments
were still intact. Don’t remember them being extra hot though.

Thanks Bob! That’s an idea. These two had those metal reflectors around them. The set up was not real sturdy though and a thin cord. Reminds me of the sodium bulb though.

I’m definitely no expert just old enough to remember incandescent light bulbs or a form there of, don’t they run hot. Like you can’t touch them if they have been on. The light bulb in the easy bake oven? I told you I was old.

Your bulb is stamped Halogen. Halogen lamps are brighter than normal incandescent bulbs of the same wattage and produce more heat. Thus they can be used for heat source in food service or for brighter light when required.
Halogen lamps were also used as vehicle lamps, google 'em, interesting stuff!

They do look like they could be used in heat lamps.

I just don’t remember where these fixtures came from. Maybe my deceased mother’s place. She had chickens but so did I and the heat bulbs I used were big. I thought maybe I’d find one on eBay but no. Thanks all of you for the help! I replaced them since they made the fixture too hot to handle. Had a garage fire this summer so I’m careful.treefarmer wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 2:50 pm Your bulb is stamped Halogen. A single watt of power is equal to 3.41 BTUs, so a 100W high pressure sodium bulb will produce 341 BTUs which will be very hot to the touch!
