First Cup Diner!
Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning. Well, yesterday I was supposed to get the Toyota fixed(some valves replaced that have something to do with the exhaust system) to the tune of $700 and have been driving the car in limp mode for a week waiting for the parts to come in. The sent the wrong parts and we will be in limp mode for another week. The car slows down to about 45 when it gets to a hill. We can take it out of limp mode with an analyzer, but it goes back in a little while later. My work truck is supposed to go in today or tomorrow for a new rear bumper and hitch to the tune of about $900, if the parts came in. I should be hearing from the shop that has my three speed two seat peddle trike any day. They said they thought they could fix the transmission for about $350. I might need it if I can't get the two vehicles repaired. I should stick to wooden vehicles so I could fix them myself. I'm off to work. Mechanics all over these here woods seem to be depending on me. Have a good Thursday.____Dave

The whole Forum seems a bit slow at the moment, strange, just waiting for my first coffee on Friday morning. Most of you will be asleep according to my calculations.

Cudgee, Your calculator may have tilted a little bit as it is mid-day here in the central time zone. I had a fine lunch of tacos and queso and am looking forward to a good afternoon nap shortly. Still and always good to hear from you tho.
It is starting to feel a little like fall, but just a little. Currently it is 91º here in Pflugerville. It is a great day to fondle some knives.

Good morning Diners. As a few have said been a bit quite here of late, but people do have busy lives. Very sad to see the damage, both physical and emotional in some of the states caused by Helena. And as usual a lot of the support is being held up by politics, i don't know how some of these people in power live with themselves. But don't want to get to political in the diner. Enjoy your last day of the working week and your first coffee when you check in. Have a good'un.

Good Morning Everyone!
Good morning cudgee, always good to hear from you. Yes the devastation from Helena is very bad and seems to be worse with each passing day. Up early today, just couldn't stop thinking about a lot of things and this morning we have a trustee budget meeting at church which always gives me a headache. Plus I'm the lead on three projects, 1st a new church road sign, 2nd expansion of our church parking lot, we've just about run out of parking spots. I guess that is a good problem to have and 3rd the installation of a new sprinkler system in the front of the church. Have a blessed day and be safe....

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good morning. I finished up a small two day job yesterday and might just take the day off. We have metal in for a roof job and siding in for a very large tall siding job and metal that should be in today or Monday for another roof job along with other small jobs piling up before Winter sets in. My legs hurt just thinking about it besides actually hurting just because they do anyway. There is a gun show about an hour away tonight and tomorrow that I think I'll drive up to in the morning Saturday. A dealer at last weekends show said that he would dig out a bag of knives for me to pick through, but he told me that year for this same show and it didn't happen so I'm not getting excited about it until it happens. He is usually a little high priced for my blood too so we'll see how this plays. My tires are in for the Elgin bike and I might pick them up today, and might even order another set to put on my old bike I've had since I was a kid. The tires on that one likely are original to the bike and weren't all that good when dad bought me the bike used 60 some years ago. I wonder if I'll get 60 years out of the new ones I just bought. I might just have to stick around to see. I was disappointed to learn that new tubes aren't rubber and don't work for sling shots like we used to make when we were kids. They are plastic and don't stretch, and probably don't last 50 years either. Have a great Friday and weekend.____Dave

Your comment about the plastic tubes brought back some fun memories of when I was a youngster. We would ride our bikes down to Butternut Street where there were several 'filling stations'. We would ask each if they had any old inner tubes and if they had a red tube it was like finding gold. The red ones were real rubber and they worked so well, not only on sling shots (we had another less appropriate name for them) but they worked great for rubber guns. Hard to explain rubber guns but they were an acceptable way for us kids to battle each other with a degree of safety. Lots of stinging welts but no eye damage or such. I hadn't thought about all this in ages so thanks to you this fine morning.

Good Mornin', Fellers!
Looks like we've had a light shower during the night and it also looks like there is a big wad of rain coming up out of the Gulf heading northeast. It is now about to be starting over in Pensacola, folks up above us sure don't need any of this! Our chances of rain are at 70% this morning. It's also a bit warmer this morning at 73 degrees.
I think today may be the last scheduled PT for my new knee, find out at 11am, other wise maybe an easy day.
Stayed busy yesterday up through dinner time, filled the deer feeder just after daybreak and then coffee, breakfast and devotional time. Started on a 25 pound batch of bulk venison sausage around 9:30, we had it finished and vacuum sealed by dinner time. Even had some of the sausage for dinner with some friends who have a standing invitation for dinner on workdays.
My helper reminded me what had happened to our zero-turn, why there were replacement parts. Seems I had forgotten that when I was mowing a neighbors yard early in the year, I had hit a cast iron wagon wheel hub that was under the edge of their porch. That must have been when the damage to one of the shafts happened and why I had several belts wear out prematurely. Mystery solved!
Coffee is ready, y'all be safe on the 1st Friday of October!

Morning folks 64 heading to the mid 80's, sunny.
Outside critters are fed, inside not so much. Wampus was resting on the tractor seat and and said hiii, I had to reattach his food bowl to the 2x6 it stays on and he didn't seem to like that. I reckon a ole coon came by the other night and ripped it off.
Got the grass mostly cut yestiddy, my dentist called and wanted me to come in for my 6 month cleaning and that got me behind, it was scheduled for Monday.
Buddies day at Hooters will enjoy that and then I'll finish cutting the grass.
Hope yawl have a good'un and be careful out there.

Hi! 66 going to 84, Sunny with clouds.
To my chagrin, the Diner alerted me to the fact that it is Friday. Up until this point I was convinced this day is Saturday. I did the same thing last week with different days. Maybe not a good sign.
Appears the dock worker's strike is over.
Los Angeles has put their robot "dog" on duty. It is named Spot.
I am giving an attaboy to Arbys. The menu is becoming impressive in its variety. Arby has always offered a good Turkey sandwich. Now they offer a Greek Goya (sp) with lamb. I have never been able to eat lamb due to a psychological aversion, but my sister assures me it is quite good. In my judgment their roast beef sandwich is outstanding. The Rubin sandwich is a little light on the saurkraut but good.
My sister's car has been using an extravagant amount of oil. Discovered there is a recall on this issue.

Morning, Diners!
68* here in the northern Missouri Ozarks and we're looking at a high of 88* today with unlimited sunshine!
Might get the lawn mowed today with some weed eating thrown for good measure. Cats litter would be next.
Tonight, we fire up the old rivalry...Royals/Yankees in the ALDS! Not sure if my boys will match up with the power and pitching of the New Yorkers, but stranger things have happened.
Better get the day started!
Remember folks, be safe, be alert and be careful out there. Very careful!

Every generation of kids that come through don't seem as creative and previous generations. I know i'm getting old and grumpy but i still believe this to be a fact. The generations before me that went through World War 2 were a lot more resilient and imaginative than my generation, they had to be to survive. Well that's my soapbox rant for the day.Paladin wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 11:20 amDave,djknife13 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:56 am Good morning.,,,,,,,,,,,

64 now, going to 77. Sunny now. a cloudy afternoon is expected. Slight possibility of some rain.
Not for me to judge, but I do wonder about people who wish to retire in Phoenix. I enjoy hot weather but when the temperatures head to 110 and higher,
I find it enervating.
Many photos of the hurricane's devastation. Some communities completely blitzed. Very sad.

Good Morning. Seems I am early this morning. 58 degrees going to 85, sunny all day.
Had supper at our local Chinese buffet. Food was just okay. The trick with buffets is to go for lunch when, presumably, the food will be fresh and perhaps hot.
I noticed that one rancher on our road has switched to raising sheep in place of cattle. I think he always had a few sheep, but his flock is much bigger now.

Re: First Cup Diner!
Good Mornin', Garry and others to come.
Cloudy and 70 degrees this morning. We didn't get much rain yesterday, just light sprinkles off and on most of the day, sprinkling when we went to bed last night.
Got a several things done yesterday, climbed the shooting house ladder (homework for PT), PT graduation yesterday, got a hair cut and had Miss Joy's car serviced. Have an appointment with the surgeon on Monday and a report from the Physical Therapy folks explaining my progress. Still a bit tight but no more grinding, bone on bone stuff!
Miss Joy's half of workday is coming this morning to help clean house. Because she had something else to do Thursday, we were able to turn the kitchen into a sausage making room without getting in her way. Usually do that by myself but so much easier with help.
Coffee is being poured, y'all have a great Saturday!

Good morning. I'm sitting here wondering if I should go to the gun show this morning. A dealer told me he would bring some folders for me to pick through, but he's told me that at the past three shows and seems to forget. I came home last night from lunch at a local golf course feeling lousy with an upset stomach, a headache and a little dizzy and it didn't change overnight. I'd be driving by myself and the show is around an hour away. I didn't sleep well last night and I don't know if it's worth it. I've almost quit actively collecting knives although some keep slipping into my collection. I hope you all have a good weekend.____Dave

Sorry you're feeling poor this morning Dave. Have a stiff neck myself for some reason ....
Couple of simple projects I need to do here at the homestead; replace a loose breaker in the new panel and another
coat of paint on the bare wall around it. The yard cleanup continues.

Morning folks, 63 heading to the upper 80's little hot for my liking but they say a cool down is right around the corner.
Critters are fed and ole wampus sez hiii from his throne, which has changed from the shelf on the ole table to the tractor seat.
May hit the little flea market and TSC after a little trip to the trash/recycle dumpster.
Sound like the Scotts part of Fla may be in store for some serious rain, be safe my friend.
Sorry your feeling bad Dave. Farmer sounds like you've done your due diligence great to hear you're doing well, ole Bambi better watch out.

Mornin' Y'all
Up too early but I'll get the pot going.
Went to a local small town arts and crafts thing. Took about 20 minutes walking slow. Did get some homemade
pear preserves. Wife picked up a couple of things for friends and nieces.
Came home, knocked out a couple of simple projects, took an afternoon nap. Watched Alabama's embarrassing loss.
Won't be much done today I think . . .
