This is probably one of those "Holy grail" types finds, for the average AAPK member... the Puma White Hunter, is just one of those classics that most people simply love to have in their collection or maybe on their belt somedays....knifegnome wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 11:52 pm Picked up this Puma White Hunter at the flea market , trying to date as I've read serial numbers on the guard , there are two marks that could be an eleven but they don't look like the font of other numbers I've seen.

I've heard/read that the name of those "ringed" bolsters is "ringed" bolsters, Rick, and if I am correct, the bottom bolster needs more sides on it to be a "coffin" bolster.RedRaiderRick wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 3:58 am The gunstock I mentioned above. NICE, Tony! I'm a dagger fan, and you have posted some real beauties lately!Corn Creek Cutlery wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 5:49 pm Acquired the older big brother yesterday, to the dagger in front.
I love the shiny slick appearance of the handles!
I have tried to do something similar with my knives; get the smaller model, followed by the larger model to make the set, and it's gone fairly well so far!
Great pair, buddy!

Thanks T-Dog! As you know, these daggers are plentiful. But, the pre '84 Westerns are getting pricey. The smaller 75 is post '84. The 77 is a G/1983.GSPTOPDOG wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 10:29 pmNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!Corn Creek Cutlery wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 5:49 pm Acquired the older big brother yesterday, to the dagger in front.

The handles are pretty consistent, but the older 77 wood has a nicer finish seen in hand. This 39/C with the cards is one of my favorites that I found last year.

Just to clarify, Dog, it might could be I ain't never had above 4-of-a-kind, (9's) but I've been beaten by a straight flush beating my Q's over A's full boat! I saw it coming a mile away, but it was only $30. more to call and see it and seeing as I'd never seen one, I called! FYI, it looks pretty much like any other losing hand, it just cost you more!Corn Creek Cutlery wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 10:14 pmI think Mark has been around quite a bit like most of us. When I saw these knives, Tony, I wondered if you'd got them from Mark, as he has a copy of the smaller model for sale in his store, but then I read your description and saw they came from a gun show. I guess they follow after the original Marble's Safety knife with their floating guards. Cool stuff!

Re: KNIFE FINDS OF THE DAY
Mark, the purpose of the guard on this knife is for gutting a deer or other animal. After a small cut in the hide, then use it business side up. The part of the guard at the tip rides against the gut sack so you don't cut it open, while the blade behind the guard tip cuts the hide. Similar to a guthook knife. Then the guard can be folded to the handle, and use the knife for skinning.Madmarco wrote: ↑Wed Dec 11, 2024 10:44 pmJust to clarify, Dog, it might could be I ain't never had above 4-of-a-kind, (9's) but I've been beaten by a straight flush beating my Q's over A's full boat! That's really interesting, Tony, I had always thought the guard was only for protection from the sharp blade due to it sticking out from the channel. How you explained what it's actually used for had not crossed my mind, and it's brilliant. I've never been a hunter, although, it has fascinated me and I would have enjoyed participating. Thanks for the education!Corn Creek Cutlery wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 12:46 amMark, the purpose of the guard on this knife is for gutting a deer or other animal.
