Wanted to carry knives from my grandfathers today. It's comforting to have their presence with me. The Bps is from a friend who's like a grandfather to me. It's always in my go bag, but today I left it behind as I brought my boys to the children's museum. Weapons are prohibited. It's definitely a tool not a weapon but I wasn't looking to have that conversation. The 34OT and the Colonial Executive are enough for any task. My grandfather gave me the OT and the Colonial was my wife's Great grandfather's. My grandfather is still with us, but he's hours away. Though I never met her great grandfather, I feel a spiritual bond with him and have learned all I can of the man. His life, his legacy. I'm proud to have been the recipient of his cutlery, a small collection of pen knives, and his scissors and razor which he used professionally as a barber. He was a butcher in Germany until the threat of war caused his immigration and career shift to barber. I was once a butcher too. Maybe I'll cut hair one day. It would probably take WW3 to force that change though

That's a great group you posted, TWKG, I'm really digging your big sturdy fixer, but all are cool knives!
I hope you don't feel that you need to qualify every post in this thread with comments like..."It's comforting to have their", etc....cuz that topic title "Comfort Knives" was strictly used as a topic title. The basis for the title came from my inability to go outdoors any longer due to health problems, and since whether I'm indoors or out I always have a knife beside/with/in my pocket or just about anywhere else except the bathtub or sleeping, I find comfort in doing so by being able to pick it up at any time and enjoy, fondle, maintain, etc. it. Many in my accumulation are autos, so I get a bit more "comfort" firing and closing them as opposed to my manuals and fixed blades that don't do anything except look pretty. It wasn't long after this topic started that any posters in the thread didn't bother qualifying why they're posting their knives any longer, since most/all of us realized that by posting in this thread is pretty much the same as the topic "What are you carrying today", except we're indoors! Personally, I feel kindda dumb now trying to come up with different reasons for why my knives are bringing me pleasure, and I don't like feeling dumb! The whole thing is really just a thread where we can showcase our treasures, indoors or out.
Of course, post any text you want, I just wanted you to know it's not necessary, buddy!

I feel you my Canadian brother. Sometimes I carry for utility. Sometimes for comfort and reassurance, indoors or out.

I once thought that I might make a living as a writer. Then someone handed me a butchers knife and a 6 dollar raise and that was my last semester at school. Now the only writing I do is here. I'm more verbose than your average knife guy probably, except for maybe topdogg, so you might have to contend with a word wall or two here and there.

Rumors of war are how the puppet masters keep the masses afraid. I'm a warrior without violence, have been for a thousand lifetimes or more.
