Camillus short line pen questions

Post by Ripster »

This short line 4 blade is not the typical 3 1/8 inch long closed short line . Several things . The 499 stamped on pile side have never seen on a short line or a pen knife by Camillus . The frame is the same as the 60 and 61 frames and they are tipped bolsters and N/S liners and pins. They are 3 blade knives. Also never seen a short line covered in metal before. The worked or filed springs have been seen on a few Camillus knives of this period . Also notice the nail Nick is on the side with the 499 stamp or pile side not the mark side . The 3 examples have the pull or nail nick’s on mark side . The nail Nick and the finger cutout do line up on the main blade .
So with that said I really would like some feedback. It’s a snappy and well built piece and will be toting it after a little tune up to the cutting edges.
Do you think it left Camillus this way ? Ever see a 3 digit on a short line? They are typically 2 digit in the 1946 to 1951 tang stamp period . And does anyone have a 4 blade pen knife with the short line Camillus stamp.
Thank you .
Merry Christmas to you all !

Skip, Thank you for the pic and taking the time to help.
Believe that’s the seller that I bought this one from . It looks like the same background. Will send a pic or 2 to Vit . He has a vast knowledge of Camillus .
Merry Christmas to you and yours out there . ::handshake::

I have a record of a short underline 498, which I catalogued as a 4 blade pearl senator with worked backsprings.

Thank you very much . With that info and some more research I believe this 499 came out of Camillus the way it is .
Appreciate you taking the time to post your info. ::handshake::
