Best Knife Sharpener?

Post by wdasaef »

I’m on the hunt for a good knife sharpener that can handle both pocket knives as well as my kitchen knives. I’ve been leaning toward a diamond stone since I’ve heard they’re pretty versatile and long-lasting, but I’m open to other suggestions if there’s something better out there.

What do you use to keep your knives sharp? Are there any specific brands or tools you’d recommend (or ones to avoid)? Bonus points if it’s beginner-friendly, but I don’t mind putting in some effort to learn.

Hi!! Welcome to AAPK!! ::welcome::
Before I recommend sharpening I now suggest "honing" and learning how to do that.
I have an old honing rod (long straight round piece of metal with tiny groves in it) that I always go to first.
In doing so I'm simply looking to "restore" the original edge and 90% of the time, it works!!
I'd recommend learning that way first, then sharpening stones later.

Take a look at the WorkSharp Guided Sharpening System. Has diamond plates, the optional angle guides make it beginner friendly, and they can be detached if you don’t need them or prefer “freehand” sharpening. Simple and easy, no cumbersome clamps. Comes with a handy ceramic touch-up and field sharpener. All for around $50 on Amazon. https://www.worksharptools.com/products ... ing-system

Last but not least, don’t be tempted to buy any electric powered sharpener. They’re for the pros, not beginners.

Edit: looks like WorkSharp has upgraded/replaced it with their “Benchstone Guided System”. Appears to have the same basic features, similar pricing. https://www.worksharptools.com/products ... -sharpener
