Sharpening Planes/Woodworking Tools?

Been working on getting a few beat up planes back in working order, and all but one (a '50s Wardmastr/Montgomery Ward--which I hesitate to do much with as it's in good shape other than honing) have some pretty messed up blades. Good thing they were cheap.

In addition, I've got a bunch of wood chisels needing work, and I'm buying a few old framing chisels for upcoming projects.

So, what all do I need?

You're off to a good start, not so much by what you have but by your passion for continuing the craft.
You need a 6 or 8 inch soft sharpening wheel on a slow speed grinder.
You need to learn to grind an edge at 90 degrees to the sides of the "iron" and the chisels.
You need stones, as big as you can afford.
You need to learn to polish the back of the chisel and the iron, then put a very sharp edge on the tool.
Easy Peasy. As Jerry would say.

So, what all do I need?

Here is what I use. A diamond plate and the General # 809 angle guide which is adjustable and will take plane irons up to 2 and 1/2 inches wide, which is what is used in my Stanley Bailey #7 corrugated jointer plane. It can be used with most types of stones as well as sandpaper lying a glass plate.
