Cześć! Hello from Texas
Cześć! Hello from Texas
Cześć! Hi - Lars here from Texas.
Only the Lord knows how many times I have visted AAPK for research, answers, or to see the latetst trends, so I thought I would finally sign up.
I have had a love affair with knives since I first learned how to sparpen a popsicle stick on the sidewalk. Knives soon graduated to swords, then bayonets filled the gap. I don't have a gambling problem....I have a blade problem. Not sorry though.
However, collecting wasn't enough. I wanted to learn how to use them all too - so I took martial arts to learn various bladed weapons, was a member of the American Fencing Academy learning foil and saber, and finally my wife - a graduate of the American Culinery Institute - taught me culinery knife techniques. So now, I practice making food I enjoy while using the knives I collect. I find that food just tastes better when prepared with one of your favorite knives!
Anyway - glad to be here and I'm looking forward to seeing many of you on the boards and contributing where I can. While I know a lot, I have a lot to learn. I just hope I live long enough to read through all the threads that abound here on AAPK!
Oh...and in case you are wondering...the greeting is Polish, as am I.

Welcome from another fellow Texan. I’m up in North Central Texas near Lake Texoma. Glad to hear that your love of knives is more than collecting but using them.

Since you like to use your knives preparing food, maybe you will share a recipe or two on the Totally Unofficial AAPK Cookbook.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I recognize many of your names and images from the various threads I have visited...I feel I know you already.
Collection pics will certainly be forth coming.
I am curious - I am not seeing a place for personal knife photo albums and such....is there one here on AAPK and I just missed it? I was expecting something like that within my profile settings. Otherwise I fear they will leak out into the public sphere via thread replies...that could take awhile.
Reverand - thank you!
Mumbleypeg, Doglegg & C-Wade7...I'm in McKinney. I foresee a Texas-style knife show & tell with BBQ in the future!
Steve - the welcome from New Jersey is fab - Thank you!
1967RedRider - tell me this is in refernce to the GTO - that all-time bad boy of the muscle cars!
Philco - count on it! Almost contributed one last night. I saw that thread - very popular indeed. I saw mostly recipes....think it would be OK to show how I make keilbasa featuring the knives as well? That would make for a lengthy but fun read. I'll have to see where I can dumb it down for space.
Thanks all -
Lars

There used to be a photo "gallery." Where it went.....?

Oh nice...so it's a thread then on a forum page and not a "personal Gallery" page - no problem. Thank you for the direction!

Re: Cześć! Hello from Texas
There used to be a "gallery" where each member could post pictures of their collection, or parts of it, and assign it a name, like "whittlers", "lockbacks", etc. Those galleries were accessible via your member profile where you would see your own, or as a combined gallery where you could see every member's contributions together. Not sure what happened to it but I think maybe it disappeared during one of Bryan’s software upgrades, and he hasn't restored it yet. (Bryan is the AAPK founder and site owner. In case you’re curious here’s some background on AAPK’s founding, and Bryan. viewtopic.php?t=58174)
