Any guesses ?

Post by Firechief501 »

This knife was found in the Superstition Mountains in Arizona in the 1970s in a cave . Its sheath is leather made , and stitched with one seam with some sort of twine . The blade of this knife is flat on one side , on the other side it’s raised in the center . It has zero markings whatsoever on it for identification . The Superstirion Mountains hold many tales of Spanish / conquistador mysteries . I know nothing of antique fixed blade knives such as this one . With the shape of the brass handguard and handle , I would like to distinguish it as that of Spanish or conquistador era design but I can’t honestly say . The handle appears very small compared to the blade . Any guesses as to its identity ? Thanks in advance .

🤔 How is the pommel fastened to the tang?
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!

Here is some photos of the pommel . There appears to be no real attachment mechanism . Not sure if it’s a tight fit/ wedged on ? I don’t know if the dark spot in the center of the pommel is the bottom of the tang, and the pommel was just driven on ? I also find it interesting that it has a slight clip point blade vs being more like a dagger

That is indeed a very interesting knife. And of course I have no idea what it is. I like it.

I would think that the conquistador era would be more steel than brass. Just my thoughts. Nice knife anyhow
