Information on Sam Cox Custom Knives

Post by Drose01 »

Recently bought a collection that had several outstanding pieces custom made from Sam Cox. I was looking for someone that could give me some insight on these knives if possible. Some of them are dated but most aren’t. From what I gather and have researched most of them are from the early to mid 90’s. Several extremely nice scrimshaws in the bunch as well. Any and all help is appreciated.

I have done that sort of research and came up short on exactly how to date the individual knives to get an idea on when they were made. I was hoping to use this as a way to reach out to people with possible personal ties to Sam and try to get them to people who can appreciate the craftsmanship to its full extent.

Maybe I was vague in my approach but I would also like to know the origin of the handle material as some are sheep’s horn and what I assume is scrimshawed ivory. Knowing the possible artist he collaborated with that has signed their work would be great too.
