Any Train Enthusiasts Out There?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Ike, I stole that Chessie diesel boneyards picture from you. That used to be the B&O Bolt & Forge/Rolling Mill yards in Cumberland. Cool old GPs in the mix, and a Western Maryland in Circus livery.

John, I expected you to be chiming in, because I had a feeling that you would recognize that area.

My dad ran a burro crane with an electromagnet loading scrap metal into gondolas when the mill was still there, back when I was a small child. The only lube the crane got was him spitting Redman chewing tobacco on the cable spooling. I remember going there once with my mom to take him his lunch that he forgot.

Santa Fe F45 5915 WB at Emporia Kansas, These units were SD45’s with full cowl hood. 20 cylinder 3600 HP. Prime movers . They Were notorious for breaking crankshafts and sucking a lot of diesel fuel.

I’m waiting for York pictures,
Tables filled with toy trains as far as the eye can see. Not sure if you will turn the corner and find
Neil Young walking around with an old Crosby, Stills and Nash leather jacket on. That was just icing on the cake.

Here's some shots from yesterday at the York, PA, Train Collector's Association show. I was able to find just about everything on my list (mostly parts), and walked all 5 halls between Tuesday and yesterday.

The weather was really nice in York, unlike the traffic there. We also did a good bit of walking, they have some nice shared trails. There was a manageable crowd over the 3 days we were there, not sure what today and tomorrow will be like. But I found some awesome deals too. Someone even had an outdoors test track set up.

It was fun returning after our 2023 visits, a way bigger show than any of the local shows around Northern Virginia and Maryland.

Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane John.
Love the photos from what I remember so long ago was it was non sanctioned flea market days Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and then moved to the fairgrounds Friday Saturday for the TCA meet.
One year was trip to Baltimore for the B&O museum? And one year was a trip to Strasburg to check out the TCA museum and take a train ride.

I love the B&O Museum, and Ronks was about 40 minutes away, one way, so maybe it will happen another time. Glad you enjoyed!

Here’s a shot of Local Freight # 9. BNSF 1438 on the point it’s a former BN SD-60M. Built as BN 9261 WB at Udall Kansas. BNSF 1970 was built as Colorado & Southern SD-40-2 918 After BN bought the C&S it was renumbered to BN 6366. Built in 2/74 51 years ago. Oh the stories it could tell lugging 12,000 ton coal trains over Trinchera pass . Shoving heavy freight trains up the 2.2 % grade to Mullen pass and the Bozeman tunnel. And Santa Fe caboose on display in the park across the street from the mainline. Several years ago somebody got inside of it and set it on fire, that’s why the windows are blanked out and it’s been repainted

Cool shots, and I love that ATSF/Santa Fe red caboose. I found a Lionel post-war ATSF caboose at the York TCA show, it's the basic 6017-235 uncommon model.

But, on a grander scale I picked up this semi-scale NYC Hudson 783, MPC era. It's quite large and in charge, these had 73" drivers for fast passenger service.

Thanks, Ike. I've been putting her through the ropes pulling some post-war consists. I think the previous owner used vanilla smoke scent, I'm switching it to JT's Mega-Steam Cinders scent.

Seems to be a great runner and puller. 😎👍

On our way back to Warrensburg from Knobnoster and what is along side of us the Amtrak Express heading towards Kansas City I imagine. I finally got a new train picture.
Hopefully y’all enjoy.
