Simmons Hardware Co. dating

Post by Coopertrooper07 »

Hello! I’ve been very interested in collecting Simmons hardware Co. knives both original and 90’s era “old new” knives. My question today is this knife in particular, it shows the hornet tang without the triangle around it, and Simmons Hardware Co. on the other side. At what point did E.C. Simmons start using the hornet tang stamp? What was used before that, or was there a variety of different stamps used? Any and all info is appreciated, thank you.

Sellen's book gives dates of 1883 thru 1917 as the dates during which Simmons distributed the Hornet brand. 1917, of course, was the year the U.S. declared war on Germany where the knives were produced.
