Smith& Weson Police knife ID

I found this with a State Police 44mag Smith 4 inch and I can't find any info. It was more than likely a presentation to a State trooper. Uncle is gone now and no one knows anything about it. Mother of pearl and in original box NO LABLE. I have never found one like it.

Based on your photos alone, it looks extremely similar to the S&W 6060 folding hunter - one of seven models in the S&W Survival series from the 70's. I have never seen one scaled in anything other than wood. It also has a vague resemblance to the S&W 109 folder, but I don't think that's what yours is. The angles of your photos make it a little difficult to do a good stare & compare. It would help too to narrow it down with some measurements provided.
The 6060 spec's:
- blade pivits on a 3/15 dia pin
- drop point blade is 3 1/2"
- notched tang locks the blade open
- overall length when open is 8"
Check to see how close your knife is to these spec's. If it is a 6060, you can search the AAPk stores above to get a feel for what they look like and current values. There are several for sale.
If not a 6060, then we have to think broader and consider a variation of the 6060 (think Shrade's LB7 and LB8 - same knife, different scales).

I hope you can confirm what this model is - I'd be interested to know. It's mighty good looking!

Please show us readable pictures of the blade tangs. Also, which state police .44 Magnum commemorative was with it?

While it was lost in an old computer I once had a lot of information on the seven 1970s Blackie Collins designed S&W knives. The six fixed blades were made in house by S&W themselves. The 6060 folder was contracted to another knife manufacturer. If I could find that information you can too. For starters look in the knives and accesories sub-forum in Smith-Wessonforum.com. That is a better place to post pictures of your knife and ask your questions.

I never learned of any one of the seven knives with handles that were not wood or of a 6060 folder with pins that did not extend through its handle side covers. The pearl's attachment with glue makes the Schrade LB7 v. LB8 not the best comparison. Pins extend through the side covers on both the LB7 and LB8. I doubt a company that never made a folding knife, S&W, rehandled a tiny number of their contractor's knives or that the contractor woud make ony a few. The model name of one the S&W 1970s fixed blades was Survival Knife. A member here has one that was rehandled with stag. I suspect that is what happened to your knife.

It was a STATE POLICE Commendation Given to a State Police officer for service. I took the knife to a local jeweler and he has verified that the scales are real mother of pearl. I will try and get more comprehensive photo's. This was given in the 80's at one point the sticker fell off of the metal corner box. Smith & Wesson were less than helpful. They could only verify the firearm.

Marked on sheath is 109W I assume that is what it is. The dept or he for that matter had custom scales placed on the knife. I did fine a Colt 1911 also with pearl grips {real pearl}.
