I tend to agree with you regarding fumbling around with one tool only to use on another tool, seems like too much work for a minor payoff to me. There are alternatives for sure.Railsplitter wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 10:35 pmI don’t think those are the right approach for me personally.Madmarco wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 10:11 pm
Hey Rick!
Might I suggest using an "Steel Thumbnail" that they use to pop the lids off the of GEC knives tubes? It's an accessory specifically made for folks with weak or troublesome thumbnails, that is manually applied to any existing blade nail-nick and pried open. Sold at A.G. Russell.com and various sizes and locations.
Good luck!![]()

They work great!
Carrying an extra tool to open a knife blade does not appeal to me at all. There are too many knives that I can open more easily and without pain . I like those types of knives too and I can go back to them if necessary.
I have actually been doing pretty good so far. As long as I don’t sit and play with the knives for any length of time, I am okay. It takes some of the fun out of enjoying my knives but the trade off is that I can enjoy my traditional knives again with a little restraint.
Jus' thought I'd throw the idea out there in case!

I had the Bear Lake at Pilot Mountain, then in my pocket at Mt. Airy/Mayberry.
Pocket, fixed, machete, axe, it's all good!
