Here is the knife with the shield I posted above. These old Schrades were made in an era when a man used a tool until there was nothing left to use.

It's always amusing to me that it usually wasn't all the blades but especially a favorite one.

It seems to me that the sheepsfoot and the coping blades got used up more than any others. I can understand that since they are two of my favorite blades.

Case has offered several patterns with sycamore handles and they have also offered colors like black or blue. The saddlehorn I posted has natural sycamore, The wood has beautiful grain.

Seeing that knife makes me curious about what I missed.

I'm not sure but I would imagine that Case stabilizes the wood for use as handle material. I think the way the wood takes die is very cool. Below is a pic I swiped off ebay of blue sycamore handles.

The only shield I’ve ever lost. I dropped it on the marble floor at Grand Central Terminal and never saw it again.

I contacted SMKW but alas, no. I filled it in with sculpting clay.
