Lucky devil. I haven't bought any good ones in weeks either. As long as it doesn't rain next week I'll be on the hunt Saturday morning at a show I haven't been to before so maybe I'll get lucky.

A friend at work gave me these knives for taking his place on the overtime list last Saturday. Someone found them in a shed and gave them to him. He kept one for himself but not being a collector, passed the rest on to me. They were pretty grimy and rusty but cleaned up ok. Nothing too fancy here but a few nice ones.

Wow Mike, nice knives. What a nice fixed blade, and that dog head is probably worth what you made on the overtime shift.

Thanks Gino and Joe. My friend was asking me to use my knife quite a bit a few months ago so I gave him a nice old Schrade Walden stockman I didn't use. I think he appreciated that and paid me back big time. ::ds::

You fellers sure did a better job than me with your Saturday. All I did was mow and run the tiller and mow some more.

Gino that old Boker gets my motor running.

Mike, I wish I had a friend or two like that. Very nice of him.

Thanks Phil, I really like it. The guy I bought it from at the flea market is there just about every time I go and he always has one or two cheap fake SAKs on his table and that is it as far as knives go. But when he see's me he always pulls a few good ones out of his pocket and today it was the Boker. I had to have it. ;)

Phil,
Ah, so it is your fault I had the day I did. We both had the same Saturday on opposite sides of the country. I am so sore I can hardly set here & type. ::dang:: ::dang:: ::dang::
Next Saturday PLEASE go to a flea market or sumthin’ else – this is too much like work!! ::smack::

Nice ones everybody.

What's stamped on the big blade of that Hawk Bill? I suspect it might have come out of Sheffield.

Blade is most likely stamped "Cast Steel", probably the tangs too.

Looks like an early Sheffield product ::nod::

Upon closer examination it is marked "Cast Steel" on the blade and tang.
Thanks Dimitri! Still has a mean close on both blades.

My wife and I took a long distance drive yesterday ( 5/22/11 ) to do some antiquing in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland. While driving between shops we were distracted by signage directing us to an existing estate sale. So we made the right turn and looked the place up. Cool old house and upon entering a lady informed us that anything marked at $100.00 or less was half off. I spied this lonesome little single blade jack knife and quickly snatched it up. It had a $4.00 tag on it, so that made it a $2.00 deal. The tang was crusted and coroded, the whole knife generally in bad shape and I had to wait thru a 2 hour drive home to get my tools for a little clean up. Well, much to my surprise and delight, the tang stamp say's "Russell ". It's old, craggy, and not the best looking, but it cleaned up not to bad, and now I own my first Russell. Cool! ::groove:: Bull ( Dale H. )
