Buy gold and silver. That paper is worth only what the Fed says it's worth anyways. They can take money out of your hands and bank accounts simply by putting the printing presses on overtime.
When a loaf of bread costs $200, our $10,000 in the savings account doesn't matter anyways.

I hear ya Blue. I agree, money is just a piece of paper with numbers on it but (you knew that was coming didn't you) gold is $1642 today (Kitco) and sliver is $31.50. The world market could change over the weekend and Monday they could open at $999 and $19. That whole market thing is controlled by a bunch of nervous Nellie's that sit around, twitch, drink tons of coffee, smoke cartons of cigarettes and look for the slightest indication of an effect on their stocks (or precious metals). Sell!! Sell!! Sell!! Sell!!

What happened to the market??

Best just keep what little money ya got under your mattress and the old 30-30 loaded, close at hand. How's that for paranoia?

When I see things like this, I see our freedoms slipping away.
They used to slip very slowly but now the rate of slippage has greatly accelerated!

Now in my own town we have members of the Communist Party and avowed Socialists camped out on our state capitol grounds DEMANDING that we give them what they want. Yesterday I heard the Nazi party of America (or what ever they are called) has endorsed the Occupy Wall Street group also. Apparently the Communists, Socialists and Nazis are in agreement, and that gentleman is really scary!

You're right about one thing Blue. Gold may go up and down but in several thousand years, it's never gone out of style or become worthless. I'm just wishin' I had bought some when it was $300 an ounce. (and Ford stock when it was $3 a share and ...)

Making a cashless society has NOTHING to do with catching crooks.

It has everything to do with control and taxation of the population. They'll collect their taxes every time you access your money and they'll know exactly where you were when you spent your money and what you spent it on.

Don't be surprised if they also attempt to outlaw private ownership of gold and silver.

The mega banks have stacked the dominoes and are tipping them over as we speak.

They're stacking the deck and hoping Israel will light the BIG fire in the mid-East when the fanatics they're setting up with power decide to try to take Israel back.

The next few years may be way more interesting than anybody had ever imagined and I'm not speaking about it being in a good way.

I hope and pray I'm dead wrong on this one. Nothing would make me happier than to be proved wrong.

today, NPR...{national peoples radio?} put out some statistics...the top 1% of the people in the U.S. had a 290% increase in thier profits/wages...the 99% of the workers in the united states had a 12% increase...in the last 30 years.

In my humble opinion, the true value of gold and silver only increases with time. The value of a printed piece of paper may rise and fall in comparison to the precious metals, giving the appearance that precious metal values change.

For example:
If in 1913 I had a dollar bill, I could buy an ounce of silver, or about 0.05 ounce of gold.
In 2011, it would cost me $22 in federal scrip to buy what I could buy in 1913 for a dollar. (based on consumer price index).
My ounce of silver is now worth around $40.
My gold is now worth around $85.

I could have bought a quality pocketknife for $2 or 2 oz. of silver in 1913.
Now I can still buy a quality pocketknife for 2 oz. of silver today (approx, $80)
With my gold I can now buy twice as many pocketknives for the same 0.05 oz.!
But I can't even find a knife with a broken blade for $2

One might argue that the speculative value of gold could drop to $5 an ounce. That is indeed possible, but highly unlikely. If it does, what then is the cost of items to be purchased?

So I submit that gold and silver always hold value. Even if the speculative market drops, or the value of the Federal dollars increase or decrease, gold and silver will always have a true and real value.
If we think that the dollar - based on the faith and good reputation of the U.S. government - will always be the standard of value, we are mistaken.
Ask the folks who invested in Confederate paper money about that.

Ironically, Confederate money is now worth more than U.S. Federal dollars. Try and buy a Confederate ten dollar bill for less than $10!
