1st KA-BAR

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

I seem to remember a conversation here, some time ago, on dating Ka-Bars but after doing a little digging, I couldn't find it. I believe the essence of the discussion was, "It's impossible to date Ka-Bars using the tang stamp." As far as the model (pattern), you called it. It's a Barlow unless you're looking for a model number like other knife companies put on their knives. If that's what your asking I'll have to leave that question for one of the Ka-Bar collectors.
