Pearl is hard to photograph for sure but you guys get it done. Cocobolo, on the other hand, is easy!

Re: Knife Photography
Knice grain in your cocomobolios Russ.
Got a few of those meself.
Pearl is a challenge, seems from my attempts that
for showing the fire less light is more. Of course
at some point it becomes too dark to see the silver parts.
This goldlip on blue trunklid had interesting result.
(should have dusted trunk 1st)

Moving the overhead light back slightly behind the backdrop
is only difference between these shots. Reflection of gold mat
in front unexpectedly 'ignited' the mops texture.

Re: Knife Photography
I think this 1974 smooth black 31SAB is a handsome knife, but it sure is a challenge getting a good pic of it! Even risked the inclement weather today and took it outside, but still had problems with shadows and reflections. Then the snow started to pick up and I had to head for cover, this is the best I could do.....

Nice one Mike, and a good pic too. The 31SAB is one that I have in my pocket every day. A nice pocket rider and is great in the hand.

Thanks for the vote of cornfidence QS
My Mop routine is quite simple actually.
Take several shots w/slight differences
in light as well as to angle of the dangle.
Puter upload pics to study results, pick
the best 4 for upload into photobucket,
then delete the 24-46 rejects.
