Anyone seen a set of these? My first Cripple Creeks.

That is a nice find. I have seen individual knives from that set but never the complete set all together with the wheel. There were 300 sets of these made. Here is an explanation of that set from one of Cargill's newsletter from 1983. Do you have the top of the wooden box?

Well I finally acquired a Wounded Knee set. Mine is number 7. Interesting to me that it was advertised that there were 300 sets of these made however I have only seen three complete sets in the wheel and all have been numbered less than 10. I wonder if there were three hundred sets of knives but only a few with wheels?

Very cool set indeed! Beautiful main blades...the drop point, clip, spear, and spey, nice! Is the secondary a pen on all four? Is there any significance to the artwork on the top of the box?

Can not say for certain regarding the artwork on the lid of the wheel. The article above, as found in one of Bob Cargill's newsletters. offers some explanation. The artwork appears to me to be a drum. There are 4 buffalo's in the N, S, E, W positions representing each of the colors as described in the article. And, yes the secondary blades are all pen blades.

Very nice and unique sets, greggs15 and bkazz5. I have never seen one of those before this thread. If there were actually three hundred of those floating around, it does seem likely that they would show up on Ebay a bit more often.

I believe I heard there are 300 knives total, not 300 sets made. I could be wrong. That would make 75 wooden wheel display sets total.

My take on the artwork is the original 4 directions of the wind with the buffalo
skulls,, and the other 2 spokes added in the article, earth, sky,
with the feathers hanging on bottom like many other possesions were adorned with

I been taking trips to S Dakota,with having friends in Deadwood, since 1979
had a small investment in the town years before they cleaned up and brought gambling in,

I have been to Wounded Knee, haunting !!!, especially if you have ever saw the
pics of the frozen bodies in death being thrown in a mass grave, makes me ashamed
of my goverment whenever I hear the name Wounded Knee
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee is a good book with several historical photos in it, check it out,,
been giving donations to the Red Cloud school for 30 yrs in Oglala SD on the rez

If you guys ever go to Dakota, stop by Bear Butte state park, 10 mi out of Sturgis,
its the center of the Lakota Sioux, & Cheyenne tribes world for religious ceromonies
it is a "unbelieveable" place if you have the belief of the spirit inside of you !!!
