Down Mexico way.........

Post by useem »

This is my "LEG" knife that I almost forgot I had. It was brought from Michoacan, MEX. by my uncle. I have had it about 25 years. It is stamped on the blade, but I can not read what it says. I will ask him when I see him the name and town where it was made. I remember him saying it was made by a company that made the best butcher knives in Mexico ::shrug::

Nice to have a knife with family history behind it.
Those are the best kind IMO. ::tu::

Cool 'leg' knife ::tu:: . The blade is quite unusual. Do you think it has a very specific purpose or just a general butcher knife? Thanks :) s-k

thanks guys. My uncle says it was made in Sayula, Mich. MEX. :D The blade is only about an eighth of an inch thick and he says these were used only for slicing meat. No heavy chopping. It is extremely light and sharp, so i think his memory may be right. He is trying to dig up another one he says he has, with a clean, readable tang stamp. Will post pictures when I get it.

Sorry I have not been around lately.

Nice, looks like a typical Mexican butcher knife to me, though most have simple pinned on wood handles, you can check them out at butcher shops and street taco stands...

I would guess it is from Sayula, Jalisco (not Michoacan), Sayula is well known around here for such work, you may want to look at some knives by local maker Jose Ojeda:

Don Luis,
Longtime no see amigo! ::tu::

I have missed your input and participation in the forum. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Thanks for the links. Nice looking knives, but I can't read Spanish. But they're still nice to look at. The prices seem pretty reasonable. He has some really awesome folders.

Take care,
Dale

Hi Useem:
Also welcome back to Don Luis. Hopefully the Lobo has been sending a large pot of his savory stew to the Stag Sand Bar for all to enjoy from time to time.
Regarding the knife in question it, especially the boot is excellent. BRL
in his 4th has a line drawing on page 460 that is a pretty phenomenal
duplication of the blade. He also alludes to the Jalisco origin.
