Not trusting myself to work on any knives for customers, so I started working on a few half completed projects laying around my bench.
I ended up completing several knives and I made a couple special ones for some Marines I know.
This first one was a Camillus Daddy Barlow. I never had modified one of those before and always thought it would be fun.
They handles are mahogany CSB from Culpepper's.
The Marine Corps shield came from a bulk buy I made of Schrade parts, purchased by the pound.
The man I made this for was a fellow I worked with for a couple years when I was working as a Veteran's Representative for the State of Oregon. Larry and I worked closely together. He was a Navy corpsman attached to a Marine unit. I don't think I've ever met a Navy corpsman that had served with the Marines in the field, the did not consider himself a Marine.
So this one's for Larry; Semper Fi brother!
The second knife is for Dan. I met Dan about a year ago at our church. Dan is a Vietnam veteran and he also has multiple sclerosis. When I met Dan he was wearing leg braces to be able to walk due to the loss of muscle tissue in his legs. The muscles in his hands had deteriorated so much he couldn't play his guitar, and he is a singer-songwriter among his many talents.
A few months ago after a lot of prayer is multiple sclerosis begin to get better. The doctor has no explanation for it, but Dan and I believe it's a miracle. He recently sold one of his songs to a Christian country Western group, and part of the deal is that he appear on stage a few times with them. Miraculously, he has regained the ability to use his hands enough to play the guitar, although it is painful for him.
I made this knife for Dan out of a Schrade 895 frame and a new 893 blade I got in the batch by of Schrade parts. I also used one of the Marine Corps shields from those parts.
To make it a little easier for him to open it, added the easy open notch.
