Oakedge Milford Rosewood Barlow Pass & Review

Post by TripleF »

Not long ago Brian, from Oakedge Knives (AAPK store https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/catalog/oakedge) contacted me via email asking if I would review one of his knives and consider conducting a "knife pass" like we did with Jezebel and Griz.

Oakedge is in the United Kingdom and is looking to gain some traction in the knife world here in the USA with their custom handmade knives.

I agreed.

I selected this gorgeous rosewood Barlow (which they're selling for only $25.99 in their store).

Looking for a few volunteers to help with thoughts, insights, AND PICS (we love pics here) and pass it along to another member for the same.
If I don't have it I'll need your cell number. Please post in this thread and send me a PM with your address.....

You want in Tom? I have the one shown.
I review, then ship that knife to another who reviews and posts pics, then he sends to the next guy, and so on....

We on the same page now? Only one knife everyone reviews....

To the others involved in the Review/Pass.....I've had the idea to post our reviews at the same time on the same day.
My thought is we couldn't be led to expect something that may not be.

What say you all....Jerry....Jody....Wade....Terry....Tom?

It came in yesterday. The first thing I noticed was a strong spring and a stiff opening blade. The spring is not nail breaking strong but close to it. What saves it is a deeper than average nail nick. The knife came to me very sharp but I have the feeling that was Scott's doing.

The next thing I noticed was a big beefy blade, sporting a larger than average clip to a very sharp pointed tip. My first thought was, "you would need to be careful with that tip because it looks like it would be easy to break off if you were not careful how you used it".
DSC08465.JPG
The back spring sits level with the liners and frame with the blade in the open position.
DSC08469.JPG
But with the blade closed, it does not sit flush but slightly depressed. Makes me wonder if they're all like this or if it's just this one.

DSC08472.JPG
I don't recall seeing a knife whose back spring stopped short of enclosing the bottom pin. Odd. ::shrug::
DSC08473.JPG
I'll carry this for a couple of days, report back, then send it on to it's next stop, Colonel26. You can suspect to see it the first part of next week, Cuz.

10-4. I'm looking forward to it. Especially since I'm not a Barlow guy. I really want to like them. I've just never been able to. I'm hoping this will be the one.
