Challenge Cutlery knife question

Post by 58chevy348 »

Just got this beauty in today. This is a Challenge Cutlery two blade knife. The tang stamps are weak, but I have never seen a Challenge knife with a large deep "C" or arch on the reverse of each tang. Anyone else? This one measures 3 and 7/8 inches long. Tang reads "Challenge Cutlery Corp."One of my best Challenge knives yet! 9784

I have seen his mark before on several Challenge brand knives I have owned. As I remember the knives had celluloid handles and one was a muskrat like your knife. Your knife looks to have had the other muskrat blade re-profiled. I had thought that the weird "U" stamp may denote stainless blades. I can't tell about your knife from the pictures. Are the blades stainless?
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Btrwtr, yes they do appear to be stainless. I have several other Challenge knives, but all are carbon steel (and do not have the U shape on tang. So, there may be truth to your theory. Thanks for the info!
