Show Us Your Latest Gerber Knife

In 1939 Joseph Gerber (advertising agency owner) had custom knife maker David Murphy make 24 sets of carving knife for some of his select customers. Catalog retailer Abercrombie & Fitch saw them and was so impressed with the quality of the knives they wanted to sell them. Thus was born Gerber Legendary Blades.

Real fond of these little Silver Knights. The one with scrimshawed ivory had some cracks that Dale (orvet) very kindly and professionally stabilized for me. The engraved bolster black pearl is my most recent acquisition.

I finally got around to looking up the serial number on your Mark 2. The number places it within 1970 production. There were approximately 4950 knives produced that year. All the accessories appear correct. Your knife is a real treasure.

I sent in an odd multi tool for warranty repair, got "store credit", got this Shark belly on the way. Says American made, looks kinda neat.

Got this one at a moving sale today. Didn't see any knives out so I asked. The woman asked her husband if he wanted to sell it and he said,"Sure;five bucks!" Figured I couldn't go too far wrong on a Gerber for a,"fin" Nice and light in the hand for it's size;looks like I have a new EDC.

I do love the Gators, but this "Straightlace" is actually my latest Gerber acquisition. With the anodized metal handle it's a bit heavier than I like for EDC but feels very solid and sturdy in hand. I also really like the smooth action on Gerber knives, and this one is super smooth.

I bought a new pair of rubber boots ,and decided to throw in an Ultralight LST with the order. The LST and Ultralight LST are, pretty much, the only LSTs Gerber still makes. My favorites, the Magnum and Magnum Jr. have been discontinued since 2010.

KIMG2087.JPG

It's pretty small, but capable. And, USA made and just $12! The knife, once the lock is released has a self-close better than far more expensive knives.

A couple of years ago some posts on this forum about the Silver Knight series got me started collecting samples of the 250A. I still have variations to get, but here is what I have so far.

I'm not a big fan of scrimshaw, but I thought I should have at least one to go with my other Silver Knight 250A knives. Here is Ducks Landing

At the risk of buying more knives and incurring the wraith of my "demonstrably better half" I stopped at one of the local antique shops while the phone people were trying to figure out while she was getting music playing through the phone when she was playing one of her games on it. Checked the vendors and didn't see anything new until the owner pointed to a box sitting on a counter and told me that they had just arrived and he hadn't had a chance to go through them. Said there were mostly new knives in it.
In the box was a couple of new KA-BAR mk2's and a similar Case along with a couple Case folders;a Marbles made in Pakistan and a couple others of questionable heritage. And then there were these................
I picked the 3 Gerbers out and another from a company called,"CFK Cutlery Co." Damascus blade;horn handles;some file work;probably Indian or Pakistani but I liked it. Asked him what he wanted for all four of them and he mumbled something about researching them so I said OK and let me know when you do and give me a price. As I started to walk out he gave them a brief look and said,"$175" and then as I continued to walk he said,"How about a hundred and fifty for all of them?" SOLD!
With tax they came to $159. Think I did all right today and my wife wasn't TOO aggravated!

How old do you think that Mark II is?

Come to think of it I have gotten a couple of good deals in the past week or so. Here are the serial #'s of the two daggers;the 525 doesn't have one.

I bought this FS 1 Mack tool model recently at a ridiculous price, hope to turn a profit for once with this one...As new, never used or sharpened.
