Name That Knife

Let's play name that knife. About 4 1/2" long cheetah type knife with swing guards. Also a lockback, odd bolsters, and with neat looking old bone. Is this called a saber blade? 1950's? All I know is Something Co. / MADE IN USA. All help appreciated.

The bone looks like peachseed;maybe a High Carbon Steel made by Schrade?

Schrade did not make a pattern like this but it is likely that this knife is older than 1950's.

Camillus. Not sure what the stamp says but a Camillus made knife.

I was out this afternoon and took the knife to the local knife guy. He is very knowledgeable and has set up at many shows over the years. Nothing certain but he thinks NY Knife Co. and definitely pre 1930 after seeing the knife. He is going to try and get more info from a guy he knows. Does that information add anything? I wish they made a type of acid that would restore a name on a knife blade like they do for dateless Buffalo nickels. Just put a drop on and you can read the date. It would probably never work on steel. I tried some on an aluminum token and it didn't do squat. Oh well

With the right technology, I'll bet is could be done. I remember seeing a demo from a visiting university professor about some sort of wild scanning tech that could read the date off a penny on the other side of a brick wall!!

Wayne is correct,made by Camillus.Bone looks nothing like New York Knife Co bone.

Good Deal. Thank you guys so much for posting that information. Sure look like the same knife though the tang stamp must be different on mine. Mine has Made in USA and that is clear. Also nothing about Sword Brand on back. Maybe mine is older or newer? Any possibility it was a contract knife Camillus made for another company?

Camillus did make these as contract knives. Pheonix in Syracuse for one and likely others.

It appears that the swedge is different on the OP's knife than the Camillus that was posted.Also the bolsters are beveled on the Camillus and straight on the original.

Here are three other examples, first two are not my knives. Since blade swedges and bolster bevels are hand operations they would vary some. I suspect the OP knife could very well be a contract knife made by Camillus.

First is a Camillus 4 line.

Second is stamped Pheonix Cutlery Syracuse, not to be confused with Pheonix Knife Co. Pheonix N.Y.

Third knife is an earlier rat tail bolster 3 line Camillus lock blade. Different earlier jigging but very similar blade and construction. No swing guard.

The tang on this pruner is unmarked. I have no Idea who made it. ... 4 1/4"

Like Terry said - great old gnarly stag and some nice pocket wear character to boot - add that to the rat tail bolster and I am assuming all steel liners .. I am guessing Sheffield-made and a later 1800s knife mainly based on that stag which seemed to be more common on Sheffield knives - Are the liners and bolsters integrated? ... Just a guess Sheffield-made but no clue on the maker... The swedge on that hawkbill blade looks like one of many cutleries so hard to tell by some blade shape and style

And they all had nail nicks - Not sure I ever saw a hawkbill with a long pull
