Help with id. SS reverse circle mark

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Help with id. SS reverse circle mark

Post by longbowdude »

Hi. Can anyone give me some info on this knife? None of the tang mark photos I have found on the internet match it. It has 2 S marks and the made in usa marks seem to be reversed. Looks old to me. Shame its cracked so bad.

If my old memory serves, the S designates stainless.

Ray is correct, I have two or three that have stainless blades and the same mark.

I believe the model is R6575. Sleeveboard with tip bolsters.

Ok thanks. I looked at some sleeveboard photos and it also closely matches R6643.

Any idea why the "Made in" and "USA" marks are reversed compared to all the other tang stamps I have seen?

Due to the pocket wear I could not see if the handles are pyremite or bone??? If bone it is probably the model you found.

It's a late 30's era knife, I believe the "made in" and "USA" were reversed on the "S S "(stainless steel) tang stamp.
