Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
Russell, that's a fine old jack.
I've seen that pattern before, but have never owned one. Most of the one's I've seen were pretty beat up.

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
There is a nice looking, but highly priced Terrier dogleg jack on Ebay.
I have a nice example of this pattern and cannot justify attempting to upgrade at that price. The price might come down a bit if this auction ends without a sale or it might sell at that price.
Thought I'd share the auction here in case someone was interested.

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
I just received this big five inch Terrier single bladed jack from OlderDogs via an EBay transaction.
It’s probably the same pattern as that posted above by StumpStalker.
Beautiful old bone on this one.
I’m pleased to have this knife. The blade is down a bit, but such knives are hard to find.

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
Interestingly, the very first Terrier I was ever offered was this pattern. Cindy Taylor had it and it was near mint.
I had no knowledge of Terrier prior to that and I didn’t buy it, as I had limited funds and was looking for “Robesons”.
I think she wanted ninety dollars for it.
That was in the very early 1990’s.

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
I snatched this one off Ebay two days ago with a Buy-It-Now price of forty dollars.
The blades are pitted and the backside handle is cracked.
Bruce Voyles showed a Robeson of this pattern in two of his books and called it a serpentine doctor's knife, probably because of that flat bottom bolster. I'm not sure it's a "pill buster", so I'm just going to stick with serpentine jack.
It will display well from the front side.
Very unlikely I'll ever find a better example.
And, forty bucks. Why not?

Charlie I think that is a good buy at $40, cracks and all. I also think it's nice to have some knives with use and character amongst the minty unused ones.

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
Joe, it looks pretty much like that pearl serpentine jack you have, except for the bottom bolster being flat instead of round.

Re: Terrier Cutlery Company
The little Terrier jack arrived today.
I’m quite pleased with it. I don’t think I could have gotten this at a knife show for forty dollars.
It is only 2 7/8” long.
Has the Dog’s Head logo on the back of the master and a pattern number, 15 / 722, on the back of the pen. That would be a Robeson pattern number of 722015. They reversed the two sets of three digits on the Terrier knives. When Robeson assigned numbers to their knives in the very early 1900’s, this pattern was the 15th knife to receive one. So, it’s an old pattern.
Blades are nearly full, but with pits, spiders and patina.
They open and close with audible snaps.
Both have the full stamp, TERRIER / CUTLERY / ROCHESTER, N.Y. in three lines.
There is a crack across the back handle with a bit of material loss by the rocker pin.
She’ll display well from the front.
Pretty good knife to date from the 1910 to 1916 time period.
