Stagman, thank you for your kind remarks. By the way, I too love to sit out back and relax with my pipe. We have a nice little shop in town that mixes up some very nice blends but I still enjoy lighting up with Carter Hall....... showing what a tight wad I am. Lol. John

I added a couple more to my "flock".

OC the carving is exquisite, the painting as well. You have a way with wood. Absolutely great work.

If you ever get out east, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, is the Duck Decoy Museum.
Fascinating place. Your work would be worthy!

The ones I make are mini decoys, that one is a "tiny decoy". That mallard turned out great!!

Re: Wood carving projects
Here is another kind of decoy that I have made. This one has a 3/4" board for the base and another 3/4" board for a vertical riser and a separate piece for the head (so the section would be an upside down T shape). Then hoops of wire are attached to the sides of the base board and over the riser and into holes on the other side of the base board. Then canvas is stretched over this and tacked to the wood. Spraying water on the stretched canvas will make it shrink tightly to the frame work. It is then painted in the conventional way, which further shrinks the canvas. The advantages of this method is that it used much less and smaller pieces of wood, as well as being lighter to carry out to the field in big quantities. I mounted this one on a base and made it into a lamp. It makes kind of an interesting looking goose decoy. This style was used in the early 1900s in parts of the country that did not have large trees to make full size solid body decoys.

Re: Wood carving projects
I had to make another canvasback decoy from wire and canvas to replace the one I gave away. He has just taken up residence with the rest of the flock.

Re: Wood carving projects
I have had this Crosman 1377 air pistol for quite a few years, and never liked the stock plastic grips and forend that came with it. So I recently whipped up a set of walnut ones. Sure looks a lot better and feels better too.
The standard cheesy plastic ones. Finished walnut replacements The inletting for the forend is probably the trickiest part. It has to fit tightly and is pinned to the pump lever.

Re: Wood carving projects
OC that is awesome!!!! That changed the entire look of the 1377. I have one and must admit that the plastic is not its strong point. Boy did that turn out beautiful. You always impress me with your work.
