2 Dogs

The KA-BAR brand originated as a trademark of the Tidioute Cutlery Company. Tidioute was later taken over & renamed the Union Cutlery Company which continued making the brand until Union eventually adopted it as the company name in 1952. Cutco Corporation later acquired the company in 1996.

2 Dogs

Not my knives, but a friend of mine I thought I would share. One is a Union and the other with the swing guard is Kabar on front and Union on back. Enjoy.

In my uneducated opinion the swing guard is newer because the dog shield appears to have a mouth. The other one doesn't and looks original.

The swing guard is newer because it is KA-BAR and the other is Union Cut only. Still a pre-war knife. Many pre-war KA-BAR doggies have the mouth. Those are very good dogs!! It is not the mouth that is the easy "tell" for the newer dogs made by Queen or whoever, it is the eyes.

I can't enlarge that photo, but it looks like a "mad dog", one of the 1977 and newer dogs.
