Wharncliffe Knives
Re: Wharncliffe Knives
Thanks, Floyd. I also like the look and construction of this knife, not to mention my addiction to ivory. My only complaint is the size; 3 1/8" is just too small for me, especially with a narrow frame like this one has. Fortunately, I'm not planning to ever carry or use it, it's strictly a safe queen. But, as with all the knives in my collection, part of the allure for me is their potential for use should I ever so choose (form and function). As much as I like everything else about it, I'm afraid the small size of this one does detract somewhat from my attraction to it. Some lucky collector will likely get a good deal on it when I'm ready to let it go (which will probably be sooner than later).

Re: Wharncliffe Knives
I stumbled on to a Rough Ryder (new spelling) with a Wharncliffe blade. I am hooked on the Wharncliffe blades so when my credit card flips over the billing cycle next week, I'm going to order one. I guess I could order it now but this will be an exercise in patience (which I sorely need).
Heard a rumor that a few of them have had quality issues which is unusual for a RR these days. At that price, I'll just take my chances.

Thinking RRs and other China made knives may be seeing a 25% price increase soon, what with the tarriffs.

What's the closed length on that one, Scott? I'm not much on small knives but I can see myself falling for that little cutie.TripleF wrote:Love this little rascal...

I didn't remember the exact length but I did remember passing on it because of it's length.

Re: Wharncliffe Knives
Wow, jerryd, you have a well-trained Monkey if you can make him wait an entire week on a $13 knife; that's some serious military-style discipline. I am duly impressed.jerryd6818 wrote:I stumbled on to a Rough Ryder (new spelling) with a Wharncliffe blade. It's a good looking knife, great pattern. I'll be interested to hear your analysis of it once you have it in hand. Hopefully the rumors about the quality issues will prove to be unfounded.

Re: Wharncliffe Knives
This is a cheap one that i have. No brand or makers mark anywhere on the knife, so i have no idea where it is from or the maker. But is a good little sharp work knife, that can be used for really hard and dirty work, so if it gets dirty or scratched not an issue. Wooden scales came untreated, so i gave it 4 coats of Tru-Oil, then a buff and polish with some beeswax, came up a treat.

That looks like it would be a terrific carry knife. Or a great first knife for a kid.

It is a great carrier, and sharp. Never thought about your other comment, but would be a great first knife for a kid, a fantastic one for a kid to learn to sharpen. Well thought out.jerryd6818 wrote:That looks like it would be a terrific carry knife. Or a great first knife for a kid.
