Thanks! I’m really lucky to have gotten it. Always wanted one either French or English but never had a real chance at one till now

Re: French folding dagger
Is there a manufacturer's marking ?
Are fittings sterling silver ? If so are there French hallmarks that could be used to date ? Or is it only British silver that is so marked ?
Late 1800's ?
Excellent addition for any collection.

Mr. 1882 that is a fine looking dagger. I'm curious about all of Rolands questions. Great pick up.

No marks or hallmarks anywhere on the knife. My guess is 1830-1860 according to the guy I got it from. But don’t know for sure. Blade locks up tight and appears close to full.

Re: French folding dagger
How do you ID it as "French" ? Does it speak to you in French ?

Re: French folding dagger
I was hoping there were certain features you could describe that point to France rather than Britain (or Germany ?). I would like to learn about this style of knife and if it might come under the general heading of "Folding Dirk", etc., anything, as it is an area of knives i know nothing about.
Do the fittings look to be silver ?

Awesome looking knife. Now I’ll have to keep my eyes open for a similar one. Great find !
"The Edge...There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.
