My Gut Instinct Told Me To Buy This - What Is It?

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

I obtained this for $7.74 and shipping. Seller said the "hallmark" was worn off. He was correct, I can barely make out the remains of a tang stamp. The other side has a number on the tang, it's 62656. The shield is pinned. Main blade has no snap, no wobble. Second blade has great snap, great 1/2 stop and no wobble. Handles are beautiful with no damage. So, who made it and was my gut instinct to buy this knife correct? ::shrug::

Search Robeson 62656 and you will find some other examples, nice pick up for a few bucks.

Thank you JohnR. I searched Robeson 62656 and BINGO!, there it was.
This is my first and only Robeson knife. Thanks again, NWNY ::handshake::

Follow-up to my original post. Thanks to JohnR, I now know that this is a Robeson knife.
I searched pattern 62656, found similar knives, and now I know what the tang stamps look like.
I never looked on the second blade for a tang stamp, but after I lightly cleaned the tang, I did
find the remains of a stamp. You can barely make out a little bit of ROBESON, USA and CUTLERY.

It is amazing how much joy and happiness we can feel from finding an old pocket knife. "Knife Collecting, The hobby of Good Feelings"
Usually there are a couple of older Robeson knives on ebay. Sometimes a bone handle one with full blades flies under serious radar and you could get another good deal. Why stop at 1 Robeson ? There is no reason.

Most definately your gut instinct to purchase was correct. It is a beautiful little knife no matter of it's maker. If you see something like your latest purchase and you like it, buy it. At that price you cannot go wrong. For me to purchase the same knife, "IF" they would post over here, by the time everything is converted to Aus $ would cost me anywhere from $30-$50 depending on how they would post it. So enjoy your new purchase and do not hesitate to buy "like" items again. You have a good weekend mate, and well done. ::tu::

Thank you EVERYONE for the kind words. Believe me, if I see a knife that appeals to me AND I can afford it, it will be mine.
Yes, I concentrate on Camillus and all, ALL METAL USA made knives, but this is what makes all of this so much fun. You never know
what a sale of an "old knife, unknown maker, tang stamp worn off" will produce. I've been pretty lucky. Thanks again, NWNY.

Eight bucks. Really.

I would buy that kind of knife all day for eight bucks, as long as my bucks lasted, anyway.

Very nice.

The only one I have is a later knife in Strawberry Bone. It has a slightly different pattern number, 622056, but both knives are "056's". They often omitted that zero on patterns 001 through 099.
