Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Very nice, Roland.
George is a good seller. I trust him. Met him in 1997 in Waterbury.
Tom Kalcevic says 1911 - 1921 for that particular tang stamp.
I do tend to use his dates. He did the research. They may not be totally accurate. I mean, who knows, really?
So called "Worm Grooved " bone is pre-WWII and probably pre-1940.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Thanks for the posts. And thank you Charlie for the info on dates and the worm groove bone. I am surprised that more collectors did not bid for this one. Did it fly under their radar ? or are most holding out for an unused example ? Perhaps i am mistaken but i think $45 for this knife is rather low. Robeson, Swell End, and bone are all desirable.

If it was mine, I would not offer it for $45.00.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Found these two Robeson's at a Trade Days today. I have seen a couple on this site of the silver knife. I agree with some other posts that is was most likely given to Robsson's employees. This one has the name of F.C. McMurty engraved on the back side. If I read the stamps correctly (please correct me if I'm wrong) The Nickle Silver one dates back to 1916 - 1939 and the 2 blade pen knife dates back to 1910 - 1921.

Found my first Robeson at a garage sale today. Says Roberson shuredge USA with a number 222030 on the blade. So if I've researched right 1941-1964 range?

The Safety First knives were marketed to any industry or company that wished to use them. I have seen them with corporate names on the back side.
Assuming your electrician's knife has the word "SHUREDGE" in block letters, not cursive, the approximate dates are 1940 - 1964, according to Tom Kalcevic in Knives Can Talk!.

Roland, that was a mid-1950’s German import.
I think there were about a half dozen or less, such knives, including a six blade scout/utility with red composite handles.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Thank you Charlie. I had thought all Robeson/Germany knives came from a much earlier time when Robeson was still 'setting up'.
I find it hard to understand why Robeson contracted out to Germany in 1950's.
Correct to assume that the 1950's German Robeson knives are not really wanted by Robeson collectors so are of very low value ?

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Roland, the knives were listed in their catalogs from that time period.
I suspect the importation of German-made knives was purely economical.
They imported a lot of cased cutlery sets, as well, many with fancy blade engravings and partial gold finishes to highlight the work.
I see those cased sets on Ebay frequently.
They are usually labeled, "ROBESON CONTINENTAL" or simply "ROBESON" on the boxes.

Re: SHOW YOUR NEW (TO YOU) ROBESON
Well..... I finally got a Robeson for my collection. This is my first. The seller didn't identify the maker and it was pretty bad looking when I bought it. It just looked like an interesting knife so I bought it. I scratched a little of the gunk off the tang when it arrived and I saw "ROBESON" in an arch on the secondary blade. Last night, I cleaned it up and here she is.....
Before..... After a quick clean up...... Sorry for the crummy pics.... AND, after I see close-ups in good light, the scales need some cleaning too.
Thanks for looking y'all.
Mike
