It's In The Mail
Re: It's In The Mail
Steve, you will really like that Case 06247PEN - I bought one here off of Gino in the classifieds a number of years ago and carry it often - real flat for a "big" pocketknife. OH[/quote]
OH, i'm dancin' around waiting for the knife to show up. I have another of these from the 70's in dark bone that I picked up here and really like it but wanted red bone. This had a few watchers so I watched too, ............until i couldn't watch anymore. Probably bought it too soon but that happens with me sometimes.

Re: It's In The Mail
I just purchased this Mint Condition, Remington whittler (pattern # RE18293, per the seller). It is another Camillus 72 variation. When I get it, it will be posted in it's proper place. I would like to thank jerryd6818 for giving me the heads-up when I need a variation of a Camillus 72 or a variation of a variation. Also a special thank you to doglegg for directing me to this particular knife (it's a beauty). The pictures are the seller's. Thank you guys! Oh, my name is Skip.

You're making great progress Skip. The wood handle may be a little more difficult to come by but with your tenacity, I'm sure you'll nail it.

Not to my knowledge. Close but no cigar. I'm very specific when it comes to 72 clones. Must be 3-5/8" closed. Must be swell center pattern. Must have the proper blade compliment. If someone else wants to deviate, that's their business, just don't try to pass it off to me as a 72 clone.New_Windsor_NY wrote:Thank you Jerry. I love this, I really do. I agree completely. I've seen a few that were tempting, but upon VERY close examination, they turned out to be nice looking stockman knives. I've gotten much much better at detecting the wannabes. But, if I screw up in the future, I will still get a nice knife in the end.jerryd6818 wrote:Not to my knowledge. Close but no cigar. I'm very specific when it comes to 72 clones. Re: It's In The Mail
I just bought this one (best offer). Looked to close to being a Camillus 72 variation to pass it up. Seller says its unbranded, but I swear I see something on the tang. My eyes could be playing tricks on me, I'll find out when I receive it. The pictures are the seller's.

Judging from the main nail pull, the handles and just the overall look of it, I'm going to say China.

That's what I was thinking, or maybe Pakistan, but it's still a variation. Albeit probably a very cheaply made one. I'll know for sure when I receive it. Of course I'll post better, clearer pictures. Keeping my fingers crossed...........jerryd6818 wrote:Judging from the main nail pull, the handles and just the overall look of it, I'm going to say China.

This makes me wonder why there isn't a Rough Rider version of the 72. At least from what I see here; I think it would sell quite well. I'd buy one.

Really nice 72's guys.
I agree Skip, that one get's me fires going big time. The jigging is epic, some of the best I've seen on any knife. Almost make me want to take the plunge, but not yet. I got me eyeballs on some other realy nice Imperials.
Good one Jerry
Again great knives.

Re: It's In The Mail
Another Queen for $33 just off the bay. And not a #19 this time!
It's a #1 Hawkbill in near mint condition, just a few stain spots on the blade, other wise should clean up perfectly. What gets me is the tang stamp, it's a long tale Q like on 1976 models, but has USA stamped underneath. Could be another transition of the transitions... Nice thing seller took lots of pics and only charged me $10.50 to ship. Another 2 things i just noticed, my copy of Jim Sargents American Premium Guide to Knives and Razors show the #1 only came in rosewood and black delerin, this one looks to be done in sawn bone. And it is a locking sway back, like the TL-29ers. What gives??? Transition again? Other then that I think i'm pretty happy, especially for the price!

Re: It's In The Mail
Interesting. I have an Ontario (which, while not an Old Hickory, I'm almost sure is a Queen) that uses those same handles. So, did they have a surplus of handles for Ontario knives, and sell them as regular Queens?WillyCamaro wrote:Another Queen for $33 just off the bay. And not a #19 this time!

Re: It's In The Mail
This morning I purchased this Imperial "deer head" pocket knife ( the first 7 pictures are the seller's). The blades "should" clean up nicely, hopefully. I bought it as a companion knife for my Kingston "deer head" pocket knife (last 2 pictures).

Re: It's In The Mail
I just bought this one a few minutes ago. It appears to be an Ulster 63. It has 3 blades and a swelled center. The pattern #, if there is one, is not with the main tang stamp. So hopefully, it's the earlier variation with the pattern # on the other side. The pictures are the seller's. The last picture is what I'm hoping for. I will clean up the knife and repost MY pictures when I get it.

The knife looks like it has pins through the bolsters.I would say made before 1960.They started to using the Swindon System in 1960.New_Windsor_NY wrote:I just bought this one a few minutes ago.
