Pitted so bad, not rusty? What to do?

Beautiful Case fixed blade with epic stag handles....but the blade has pitting like it was hit by acid or something. No rust.

If you grind or sand it down you'll have a paper thin knife...

Hey Scott, your TV show is called "Use It or List It" isn't it. I bet the boys would be proud to cut something with it. List it as RARE. and somebody will buy it.

I say use it and enjoy the pretty stag handle.

Could you make a filet knife out of it?

Scott, Nice stag but it is what it is. I have reground some old pocket knife blades to get rid of pits but then that's what you end up with, a thin blade and probably ground off most of the stampings on the tang. So I would just oil her up and use it and think about all the stories she could tell. And to do it right you would have to completely take it apart, and old stag is really hard to remove without cracking it. Terry

The Knife has character.! Although not perfect, it looks good for
everything it has been through.

Tried sharpening....to no avail....at least not tomy liking and effort...

I think it has already been buffed to remove the more superficial rust and these pits on a thinner blade is what you have now. Plus enough blade loss so that it is too thick just above the 'edge' and a lot of sharpening would be need to create a working edge. Could be a boy's 'hack around' knife. Most kids would be thrilled to have it and hack at vines, etc.

I think joe is spot on. It was very rusty and cleaned.

I’d try to reshape and thin the blade a little and squeeze the last bit of life out of it. The stag is epic and worth the effort IMHO.
