Four Blade Stockman
Four Blade Stockman
I went to the Oregon Knife Collectors Association winter mini show last Saturday and picked up this interesting four-blade stockman stamped Powr-Kraft, a brand name used by Montgomery Wards. Looking at the handles of this knife it appears to me to be what Camillus called Brownstag. The punch on this knife is a spiral blade punch, unique so far as I know Camillus. This knife measures 3-7/8”. I suspect that this knife was probably made between the early 1950s up until the time that Camillus started using Delrin in the early 1960s. I have to do a bit more research to see when Camillus introduced the Brownstag handles, but I do know it was being used circa 1954 according to a 1954 order sheet.
Anyone else who has information on these four-blade stockman knives, please share it. I would be interested in hearing about other brands of four-blade stockman as well.
The only other posting of a four blade stockman that was made for Montgomery Wards is at this following link. It was tang stamped WARDS. The knife is 3-7/8”. Stephen Pfeiffer posted that it was made by Utica in the 1940s – 1950s.

Are the 4 blade Remington Purina knives considered stockman or 4 blade utility knives? There are several of them. They are about the size of a girl scout knife.

Ray, I really like the shield on that Kutmaster.
Ken, I can see why you like that Case. It's hard not to like with that slim frame and rounded bolsters.
Now, if that knife came in the old red Case jigged bone that would be pretty difficult for me to resist!

It's sort of like a modified bomb shield. When I got it there was a good sized piece missing from the handle and I tried to match the bone as closely as possible. One of my first attempts at repairing a handle.

Re: Four Blade Stockman
Thanks Dale. You described exactly the reasons I like it. The 047 pattern dates back to at least the Case Tested era so it was made in probably every type of bone including red bone and green bone. There’s a couple in “reddish” bone available on eBay now (one from knifeaholic). What makes them easier for me to resist is the price. The prices on the 64047 have increased a lot since Case discontinued the 64047 in 1978. It seems the punch blade and 4 inch length just aren’t popular nowadays.

Re: Four Blade Stockman
Very recently, this "stockman" pattern or style of pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I bought. It now becomes my first example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did not buy the group or lot for this particular pocket knife. However, I was very surprised and quite pleased to discover it among the group or lot of pocket knives and it did get added to my general pocket knife accumulation. It is a POWR-KRAFT, three blades, one tool (a punch or awl), one tang stamp, 3 7/8" closed, two springs, "stockman", pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade back tang stamp says, "POWR-KRAFT (over) USA" The blades and the tool, all open and close properly. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition and still has a lot of life left in it. I gave it a very minor cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.
