I welded up a 2OT blade

Well, I'm not really satisfied but it does look better than it did before.
Here is the blade looked line when I first got the knife.....

SO... this past weekend, I decided I would give welding up the nicks a try. I set my welder on the lowest setting and went to it.
I can see some impurity "bubbles" in the weld but at least it is better than it was with the nicks.
Here she is after I got the welded edge sanded down and a cutting edge on it.

Now I need to finish the clean up and I will put this one in my display case.

I think it looks pretty good. I have never heard of anyone welding nicks in the blade.

What type of welder did you use?

Dale, I used a Miller wire welder. It makes a beautiful weld but I have never tried a metal this thin.
I have it set up with gas flux. It was set on the lowest heat setting it had.
I used a copper plate as a backer.

I want to try a few more blade to see if I can figure out a way to get the "bubbles" out.
More experimenting to come.

What kind of gas are you using for flux? It's been many years since I used to MIG system but I recall there was a difference clean the type of gas you could use in performance.

I suspect that TIG would be the best way to repair that because of the low heat. I'm sure you would have used it if you had one available. It's like what they used to repair the worn down tangs.

I have argon gas but I'm sure of the percentage.
(maybe 75% Argon...???.)

I would love a TIG system..... Not enough $$$ in my pocket for one of those.

Not exactly sure about the carbon content of the wire. I can say one thing tho.... I think the weld metal is harder than the blade. It sure was hard to file. I had to use the belt sander as much as I felt comfortable and then it was sanded by hand. It took a while but I got it to blend in.

I was tinkering with my welder that day and I guess I finally developed cajones enough to try welding a blade. It turned out OK..... not the best but better than 3 deep notches.....
