Wow! That's a cool find! I like it! Congrats Buddy!UnderDawgAl wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 6:22 pm Here's the Craftsman version of the 34OT. I just got this from the auction site, replete with box, paper insert, and dried oil on the blades. Although it's minty, I'll be carrying it. That spey is just a little funny though, isn't it? The edges all appear to be factory. Maybe an employee had a little too much coffee that morning--or not enough.

I think the "Old Crafty" knives date to around 1968. Yours is the most pristine of any Old Crafty i have seen.

Thanks, all. A lucky stumble. Ripster, I agree. It's something to believe that so many high quality knives were made right here in the US at reasonable prices for so many decades. I'm afraid those days are forever gone, notwithstanding the positive things that the modern era has provided us.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Today I add this pocket knife to my collection. It is another CRAFTSMAN, 3 blade, swelled center, 3 5/8" closed, "whittler" pocket knife. Although not marked or stamped as such, it is a pattern 9494. It required a bit of cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

Another nice piece Skip
Are most of them from that period usually marked with the 9494 stamped? Need to get on the lookout for one for my small Craftsman section.
You’ve been busy lately my friend, and as usual ,scoring good stuff.
Take care out there, Thanks for sharing.

Re: Craftsman Knives
I apologize JP, I don't know how I missed these.
Those are two, VERY good looking pieces of cutlery.
Thank you JP.
I don't know for sure, but there probably is a time span that is associated with a particular tang stamp.
I know that I have a variety of "9494" pocket knives with different tang stamps.

Skip do you have another of these knives that has "9494" etched on the blade flat ?
Craftsman used so many different numbers. Sometimes the same knife but with different handles would be given a different number. In general the 4 digit numbers are older than the Sears knives with a 5 digit number.

For anyone who likes the 165OT or 165UH, or any other nice trailing point, this is a pretty cool knife. Craftsman Heavy Skinner from the 1970s.

Thanks Skip. I had forgotten that thread. How did you manage to find 16 of these knives ? Craftsman knives are not rare but the older ones like 9494 don't show up very often.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Sears Craftsman 45201 Multifunction Tool by Bear and Son. I originally thought this replaced the Schrade-built 45471 Craftsman Professional Multitool (later evolved into the ST-5E), but instead, I believe the Schrade replaced the Bear, as the packaging of the Bear looks very mid '90s. The Bear, as typical with their products, is below the Schrade, or any Leatherman or Gerber of that time period. But, the outside opening tools were so novel, Victorinox purchased Bear and Son for the Bear Jaws patent, which they used to develop the (far superior, but I still view as a knockoff) SwissTool. For some reason, Bear rebranded the Bear Jaws for private label use under a bunch of names--I've seen this Craftsman, LL Bean, Moore Maker, Nicholson, Crescent, and Hard Hat, among others.

Here are a couple of Craftsman utility patterns from my pile. Posted previously in the “All scout knives” thread but they should be here also.

Re: Craftsman Knives
Here is a "Dunlap" 3 5/8" 4 blade Cattle knife. The tang is marked: "High Carbon/Steel/U.S.A." Pattern number found in an old Sears catalog is 9462. I think it is from 1930's.
Dunlap was the line below "Sta-Sharp". You can see from the punch that it is a Camillus made knife.

Here is a 3 1/8" Junior Stock knife. The tang is marked "Craftsman/U.S.A." The handles are a pre-Delrin synthetic. I think this knife is from late 1940's-'50's.
Nice pattern with long pull and swage on the clip blade and an ease-out notch on the back side to easily access nick on the spey blade.

Roland , that’s just the nicest Dunlap I’ve seen. The punch on the few others have seen were about gone ,or the main used up. That’s in good shape for it’s age. Thank you for sharing your pics and info. You stay warm up therekootenay joe wrote: ↑Sat Feb 06, 2021 11:22 pm Here is a "Dunlap" 3 5/8" 4 blade Cattle knife. Yes often the spiral punch on these old knives is short, tip being broken off. I have no idea what people were trying to do that so often snapped off the end of the punch. B & E, trying to pick a lock ?

Re: Craftsman Knives
Not sure if i have shown these before.
3 5/8" "High Carbon/Steel/U.S.A." "Craftsman/Sta-Sharp/Chrome Plated" "9548"
The P.A.L. engraved into top bolster is for an organization, "Police ? ?" ? someone once told me what it stands for but i have forgotten.
Camp shield. Made by Camillus. With this oldest style of can opener it is likely from late 1920's or early 1930's.

Here is another Craftsman 4 blade Utility. This one is 9533 and tang is marked "Ulster/Knife/CO." Blade etch is "Craftsman/Hammer Forged 9533". Also has the old style can opener. Likely from 1930's.

Re: Craftsman Knives
I picked this one up, just arrived today. Courtesy of Steve's store and the luck of the dice roll with USPS. I was beginning to think it was a lost package.
I turned the bail around, seemed more logical to have the spring resting against my pants as opposed to the blade splines.
