Re: I finally got that 227 UH I was looking for
WHAT GETS ME IS......
.
Why did Schrade not have a display with BOTH the 127 and the 227 in it?
.
It was like SW only offered a folding hunter in ONE configuration in any one display. (I am just throwing this out there)... I might be wrong?
You could get a 127 if it was at this particular store..... BUT you had to go to another store to get the 227..... (??????)
.
Isn't this a little counter productive?
.
Why not offer everything you have and let the consumer decide?

Mike the next uncle Henry display the 59uh came out in 74 and it had both the 227 and the 127. Schrade used these as a gauge to see what retailers were ordering to restock their displays and through these orders they would understand which knives were strong seller. This is why you would see some only around for a short time. It is interesting to see how these displays evolved over time. I am loading up my other two uh displays now. I will shoot you some pics of the changes if you’d like. Here is some info on the 59 uh.

How did I miss these displays - outstanding! I don't think I've seen either one of them before.JAMESC41001 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 7:36 pm Thanks Mike, Schrade made two SW UH only dealer displays. They are very cool. Here are pics.

For the 59uh Schrade went over to the vacuum formed trays. They made it so retailers could sell right out of the trays. The previous ones we wire tied on panels. The green on the original panels was a spray. It’s very delicate. Rubs off if you brush it with you fingers. They were stapled covers put together like picture frames. Here is a pic

I wondered about the innards of those displays. I have four of the SW displays which are basically like your image, but no innards. They could be available but a nuisance to try to ship.

Well, I guess even if you do have an extra early Old Timer display, you wouldn't want to ship it to me.... (????)tongueriver wrote: ↑Thu Apr 01, 2021 6:28 pm I have four of the SW displays which are basically like your image, but no innards. They could be available but a nuisance to try to ship.

Mike, looks like the 227 had a very long run. Even when the LB7 and the other lock backs were in circulation. You can see it in the 1011-uh. This is the only other UH only display I know of. Came out in the 80’s. This evolved once more. Retailers did not have to take knives out of the tray, instead there was room for storage in the display. Also they were able to be locked.

Picked that little beauty up along with a lot of other Schrades. Part of an Uncle's gathering.

That’s awesome Tom, they made that with a red panel as well. Which one do you have?

Just to kind of wrap this up, Schrade started to make much larger retailers eventually let stores choose between different panels available. Some counter top options were created which led to the clam shell packaging and display options. Eventually two rd the end Schrade had a little of everything in its arsenal.

Re: I finally got that 227 UH I was looking for
Sorry Tom, missed your post some how. The 59uh you have looks about as nice as when it left the factory. It should Im thinking it never went to a store. So happy you got that piece of history there. That’s what this is about really. These are an important part of the story. Hoping this info helps with that. If anyone has questions about a specific display I may have some info. Let me know. Thanks for checking it out. And thanks Mike for starting the thread. Hope I did not hijack it to much. The 227 is a great knife. My favorite it’s the 127. If you have a sharp 127 on you in the great outdoors there is not a heck of a lot of cutting jobs you will have to worry about. Happy safe Easter to all.
P.S we lost Herman Williams last week. His personal collection made up much of what was on the Wall collection in the factory. Besides that and many other contributions he was one of the kindest souls you would ever meet. Rest in peace Herman

Re: I finally got that 227 UH I was looking for
I also have a SW70UH display as well as a lot of others. Might be the time to start a new thread just for Schrade displays.

Tom I agree 100%. There is so much info on this subject. Including a lot on the displays during the cut co era. Take a pic of your SW70. If it has a 172 in it im going to cry. Thanks Bud.

Cal, you read my mind. Would love to know the serial on the 227 as well. Problem is nice you tamper with the staples in the back it never goes back the same. Tom that is so minty! Thanks for posting. Glad I don’t have to search for a 172 version. That’s a relief.
