Remington Coach Gun

Post by jfarmer »

I finally have a little time tonight to play on the computer but am still on generator power. I took these rather poor pictures of my 12 ga. Remington coach gun that my wife gave me for our anniversary a couple of months ago. I haven't gotten to shoot it much yet but I think it's going to be a lot of fun.

Hey thanks guys. Yeah, a house gun is what I am using it for but I do hope I never have to use it for that.

jfarmer that scatter gun sure is a good decision maker. If a crook even has a second thought, you've got another barrel ready for that right quick. Nice 2 barrel, I like it. ::tu::

Speaking of Remington, here's another, only it's in 45-70
Actually, it's made in Russia and imported by Remington
Really kicks but it's worse on the other end.

nice 2 shooter Jfarmer.

Mike, I've been on the fence about buying one of the spartan double rifles for some time. How is the accuracy of yours? Do the barrel regulate pretty easily? I wanted to get one in 45-70 for a bear gun.
Look forward to hearing.

I love it but it only weighs 6 lbs 7 oz so if you get some loads that are over about 20k psi it will kick . As an example, I load a 350 gr HJHP behind 50 gr of varget and the recoil is 32 ft lbs. To put this in perspective, a 8 lb 30-06 will recoil 20 ft lbs. Easy to regulate and a mount for scope is readily available since the dovetail is bb gun style. The mount I have really is stout and after 80 rds it stayed in place without any worries. Mine without really doing a lot of load developement will shoot a grapefruit at 50 yds. Gun is rated for mid second level loads,,, 31.9 psi which I never want to be in the same neighborhood when it goes off. Some Dangerous game rifles will recoil @ 60 ft lbs!!!I think it would be great for bear or pigs. Workmanship is very good. Price is about $900 off Gunbroker.com plus ffl fee and s&h. One thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't stay completely open after firing but it is a solvable problem by cutting the cocking levers down a bit. Not very many here yet so it is kinda rare.

Nice shooter Gary, I like my riotguns

Mike, how is the regulation? Say it's regulated for 50 yds how bad does it crossfire at 100 yds? How much spread at 25 yds?
Thanks :)

Sorry I have not shot it at 100. But if the bbls don't cross and shoot to 1 in apart at 50 yds they will not cross and shoot much worse at 100 because they are about 1 in at the muzzle, meaning the bullet paths would essentially be parallel then. I think/hope that's where I am at now. A much larger challenge is to find the right load/velocity that the bbls like and the bullet weight, powder charge that does that. I know it will at least shoot 5 in at 50 yds and I'm sure I could easily halve that. I think I've found the recoil factor I'm comfortable with, right about 35 ft lbs of recoil. I can shoot 60 rds at that level at a sitting without any problem. From that it is easy to determine the bullet weight and velocity in that neighborhood. So far I've used 3031, 4895 and varget powders, 400 gr, 350 gr and 325 gr bullet weights.

Forgot to say the regulation is adjustable with a "jacking screw" centered between the bbls, located halfway down the length. Moving the jacking screw collar towards the butt moves the bullet strikes together and moving the screw collar towards the muzzle spreads the shot pattern. Essentially you are making the bbls very slightly "bowlegged" or not.
